Syracuse redshirt junior forward Elijah Hughes (6-foot-6, 215 pounds) has decided to leave his name in the 2020 NBA draft. After one season at East Carolina and then a year sitting out as a transfer, Hughes averaged 16.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 dimes, 1.2 steals and 34.6 minutes per game in 66 career games with the Orange.
While Hughes was named first-team All-ACC and his statistics look impressive at a glance, his shooting percentages in college leave much to be desired. He shot only 42.4 percent from the floor, 35.6 percent from deep and 78.8 percent from the line. Hughes is not a lock to be drafted in either round of the NBA draft in June. However, he maintains that he will not return to Syracuse even with one year of college eligibility remaining (barring Hughes hiring an agent). It sounds like Hughes has his sights set on pursuing professional opportunities.
