Shams Charania is reporting that with increasing testing capabilities and with the change in CDC guidelines, the NBA will now be able to test asymptomatic players and staff for COVID-19.
The NBA is also planning to fund a study out of Yale University's School of Public Health. That research aims to give a boost to saliva-based COVID-19 testing. This type of test would help expand testing opportunities to the wider general public. Expanding testing across the country would only help end the need for a bubble strategy for future NBA games beyond the 2019-20 season. It makes sense for the NBA to send funds towards this research as the league wants teams to return to their home arenas as soon as it is safe to do so.
