• I want you to completely change the way you draft your fantasy baseball team this spring. I want you to ignore starting pitchers for the first 10 rounds, focusing on hitters with your top eight picks while spending the next two picks on closers.

Before I unpack this radical strategy, I want you to fully understand how successful I have been with this methodology. I play in several Yahoo leagues every season and it is always a combination of dynasty leagues, cash leagues, custom leagues and public leagues. I am diamond level with a rating of 959, a win-loss record of 563-241-65 (.685%), and 30 trophies won with 14 championships over 33 teams managed since 2013. That’s a ring 47% of the time and a top-3 finish 91% of the time.

In terms of league setup, I am exclusively a head-to-head manager. I don’t play rotisserie leagues because they are too boring and I don’t play points leagues because they are also too boring. I play in 12-14 team, head-to-head, category leagues, because there is more strategy involved for the draft as well as in-season management.

My first eight picks are all hitters, focusing first on infielders–because of position scarcity vs the much deeper outfield ranks–then a trio of outfielders and finally I grab one of the many quality catchers. (I am waiting until the eighth round to draft either Salvador Perez at an ADP of 79 or Will Smith at an ADP of 90). Through eight picks, I have every primary offensive spot filled with a beast, and I target my 2-3 favorite offensive sleepers at the Utility spots later in the draft.

My next two picks in the ninth and 10th rounds are closers, because if you wait any longer you will be chasing saves all season. These rounds are the last calls for solid and reliable closers like my guys Robert Suarez (113 ADP), Anthony Munoz (114 ADP), Jhoan Duran (115 ADP), Lucas Erceg (152 ADP) and Alexis Diaz (158 ADP).

Then, starting with the 11th round, I start targeting starting pitchers round after round, sprinkling in a couple more hitters for my Utility spots as well as one more closer to give me the desired three firemen, which is the perfect formula to win saves most weeks.

I have drafted four teams already and my rock-star offenses are below:

    12-team Yahoo Dynasty league: C – Rutschman / 1B – Alonso / 2B – Rafaela / 3B – Guerrero / SS – Lindor / OF – Schwarber / OF – Teoscar / OF – L.Thomas / U – Castellanos / U – Robles/Fitzgerald/Busch
