Week 1 Fantasy Football Weather Report

By JasonBaum85 Published September 9, 2023 4 min read

Here we go, everyone.  The weather report for Opening Weekend of the NFL Season!

Games in Dome Stadiums

Jaguars at Colts

Titans at Saints

Dolphins at Chargers

Bucs at Vikings

Panthers at Falcons* (retractable roof, status TBD)

Outdoor Games

Bengals at Browns 1 pm EST

Weather: Starting as overcast with expectation to be partly cloudy as game moves on

Temperature: 72 degrees at kickoff, with game ending temperature around 71 degrees

Humidity: 77%

Chance of Rain: 18%

Wind: 10 mph

Fantasy Impact: None. There are high-value fantasy players on both teams, start them as you would without thinking twice about it.

49ers at Steelers 1 pm EST

Weather: Showers in the forecast

Temperature: 74 degrees at kickoff with game-ending temperature around 75 degrees

Humidity: 75%

Chance of Rain: 41%

Wind: 5 mph

Fantasy Impact: Minimal for the running game, slight for the passing game. Both teams are physical, smash-mouth football teams so if you have Najee Harris or Christian McCaffrey, there’s no reason not to start them.  The value at wide receiver, especially on the Steelers side, takes a small hit so maybe if you have options outside of Diontae Johnson or George Pickens, start them.  Be mindful of George Kittle’s status as he is questionable for the game with a groin problem so the 49ers may elect to hold him out if the weather isn’t good.

Cardinals at Commanders 1 pm EST

Weather: Thunderstorms

Temperature: 76 degrees at kickoff with game-ending temperature around 78 degrees

Humidity: 76%

Chance of Rain: 63%

Wind: 5 mph

Fantasy Impact: Significant for the passing game.  Two young quarterbacks getting their first shot at being the full time starter but more so on the Arizona side vs. Washington.  We’ll see how the Cardinals’ new look offense decides to handle everything with the newly acquired Joshua Dobbs.  Washington’s new offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy is another interesting situation to watch to see how much he trusts his young quarterback Sam Howell to sling it around in the rain. So if you have Terry McLaurin or Jahan Dotson, may not hurt to have another option at your disposal for this week.

Texans at Ravens 1 pm EST

Weather: Thunderstorms

Temperature: 79 degrees at kickoff with game-ending temperature around 81 degrees

Humidity: 68%

Chance of Rain: 61%

Wind: 5 mph

Fantasy Impact: Minimal. The Ravens will be aggressive running the ball, but they’re also not going to be afraid to throw it around either with Mark Andrews back and Lamar Jackson’s new host of wideouts while being ready to roll with a new contract in tow. For the Texans, we really don’t know how their offense is going to operate with CJ Stroud so it’s in wait-and-see mode. I would expect no difference in Dameon Pierce’s workload but maybe an uptick in Dalton Schultz’s value as a TE2.

Packers at Bears 4:25 pm EST

Weather: Partly Cloudy

Temperature: 73 degrees at kickoff with game ending temperatures around 72 degrees

Humidity: 69%

Chance of Rain: 0%

Wind: 7 mph

Fantasy Impact: None

Raiders at Broncos 4:25 pm EST

Weather: Overcast with chance of rain later in the game

Temperature: 70 degrees at kickoff with game-ending temperature around 68 degrees

Humidity: 50%

Chance of Rain: 20%

Wind: 9 mph

Fantasy Impact: Slight. If you were feeling like getting cute and wanting to give Russell Wilson or Jimmy Garoppolo a chance to start this early season game, it may be best to go with your original quarterback.  There’s still no reason not to start Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs, or Javonte Williams.

Eagles at Patriots 4:25 pm EST

Weather: Thunderstorms with them dissipating as game moves along

Temperature: 75 degrees at kickoff with game ending temperature around 72 degrees

Humidity: 90%

Chance of Rain: 48%

Wind: 4 mph

Fantasy Impact: None. The game is being played on field turf and should not impact any fantasy decisions you were planning on making based on the matchup.

Rams at Seahawks 4:25 pm EST

Weather: Partly Cloudy

Temperature: 72 degrees at kickoff with game-ending temperature at 76 Degrees

Humidity: 51%

Chance of Rain: 0%

Wind: 9 mph

Fantasy Impact: None. In a shocking turn of events, we have no chance of rain in the Pacific Northwest and it should not impact any decisions you were planning on making based on the matchup.

Cowboys at Giants 8:20 pm EST

Weather: Thunderstorms

Temperature: 74 degrees at kickoff with game-ending temperatures around 73 degrees

Humidity: 87%

Chance of Rain: 63%

Wind: 3 mph

Fantasy Impact: Some. Maybe reconsider if you wanted to start Daniel Jones or some other Giants and Cowboys player with fringe starter fantasy value.  The game is on turf however and should still not have a significant impact.

Bills at Jets 8:15 pm EST Monday

Weather: Partly Cloudy

Temperature: 76 degrees at kickoff with game-ending temperatures around 74 degrees

Humidity: 76%

Chance of Rain: 24%

Wind: 4 mph

Fantasy Impact: In arguably the most highly anticipated game of the early part of the season, feel free to let it ride with whatever Jets and Bills players you have.
