How’d We Get Here?
The Celtics made some bold moves to chip away at their roster core last season, getting rid of Marcus Smart, Malcolm Brogdon and Robert Williams, but it did deliver the franchise’s 18th NBA championship so there were absolutely no regrets. Sentimentality only gets you so far and the Celtics reached the top of the mountain with a truly dominant campaign fueled by their big transactions. The summer was an uneventful one, with Boston mostly just keeping the band together by handing out two massive extensions, one mid-tier extension and then re-signing some of the infrequently used depth. The biggest development was probably Kristaps Porzingis underoing leg surgery after the Finals that is set to sideline him for a couple months of the season. Other than that, Boston is set to run it back.
