We are only a few days away from the end of the regular season! The slate tonight is massive with 12 games eligible for selection after the 13th (Marlins-Mets) was wiped off the board. There are multiple matchups that stand out as being potential stack targets. The Yankees take on Jordan Lyles who is, statistically, one of the worst starters in the league. The Twins are in Coors to take on the Rockies so their power guys could be a decent play. We also get Trevor Williams starting in Atlanta as the Braves chase the all-time season record for home runs.
This is for the 9/29 4:05 PM PST classic slate on Draftkings.
Writer’s Record
50-26-1
Chicago Cubs ML (-107) @ Milwaukee Brewers
This is it for the Cubs. If they don’t win today, their season is pretty much over. The pitching matchup is even so I’m taking the Cubs, who are technically underdogs, with everything to play for against a team that has nothing to play for.
DFS Pillar Plays
Nick Pivetta
Position: P
Salary: $7,600
The Orioles are in the hangover spot today a day after celebrating their AL East pennant. We’ve seen a few different teams in this same scenario over the past few weeks struggle out of the gate. Nick Pivetta is having an under-the-radar season but has been well above average at striking guys out. Pivetta’s chase rate is in the 87th percentile according to Baseball Savant and he ranks top-10 in strikeout percentage.
Willi Castro
Position: 3B/OF
Salary: $4,000
Willi Castro’s salary has been creeping up in recent days, but the matchup for the Twins in Coors Field means he is priced as high as we’ve seen all year. The mix of power and speed make him a dynamic option for fantasy scoring purposes. He also has multi-position eligibility which gives you flexibility when it comes to building your roster.
Aaron Judge
Position: OF
Salary: $6,300
Aaron Judge will most likely get to 40 home runs this season and considering how many games he missed, that is a remarkable total. The matchup comes against Jordan Lyles who, among all qualified starters, has given up the most earned runs this season. Only Lucas Giolito and Lance Lynn have given up more home runs this year than Jordan Lyles.
DFS Value Plays (<$3500 Salary)
Austin Wells
Position: C
Salary: $2,900
The rookie is getting some run out and he has picked his bat up in recent days. Wells has homered in two out of the last three games and is on a three game hitting streak. He isn’t playing every day, but he has registered a hit in seven out of the last nine games he has played in.
Forrest Wall
Position: OF
Salary: $2,300
Forrest Wall is dirt cheap and the matchup comes against Trevor Williams who has not had a good year. In three starts this month, Williams has allowed 18 runs. He hasn’t made it past the 5th inning in any of those games and the Braves are chasing history. The Braves are three back of the all time home run record by a club and Wall contributed to that total last week in a game he played in against this same Nationals team.
Heston Kjerstad
Position: OF
Salary: $2,700
The Orioles have just won the AL East and before heading into the postseason, they want to get one of their top prospects as much major league action as possible. Kjerstad has only played 10 games, but he has two home runs so far. He is confirmed to be batting fifth in the lineup tonight and given that he is one of the younger Orioles, maybe the hangover won’t hit him as hard as some of the older guys.
