Jaguars (+2.5) vs. Commanders (-140)
The matchup between the Jaguars and Commanders might be one of the most uninteresting games from the surface for Week 1, but once you dive in there is a number of storylines that fantasy GMs need to monitor for certain player’s season-long outlooks. Is Carson Wentz going to get Terry McLaurin back to fantasy stardom? Will Trevor Lawrence take a step forward from an underwhelming rookie season and support Christian Kirk as a WR2 or WR3? What will the Jaguars backfield look like and who will get the majority of work? These are very important questions that fantasy GMs need answered sooner rather than later.
Commanders
QB
The Commanders upgraded their QB position with the addition of Carson Wentz this offseason, although he is many years removed from being a MVP front-runner before getting injured. If Wentz is able to be relatively competent, he should be able to flirt with a top-12 QB ranking occasionally throughout the season, but outside of a dart-throw on a bye week or DFS play, Wentz is best left on the waiver wire in redraft leagues.
RB
The running back position for the Commanders is now, unfortunately, very clear. Brian Robinson was supposed to be the lead back, before a tragic car jacking that led to him being shot in the lower body twice. Antonio Gibson will now take the reins, but he has a short leash due to ball-control concerns that were once again a storyline this preseason. Gibson is a borderline RB2 in a matchup against a Jags defense that struggled against the run last season, finishing in the bottom 10 for yards allowed. J.D. McKissic will work into the passing game and steal some of the work from Gibson, but he is at best an emergency dart-throw in the flex for PPR formats.
