Fantasy Basketball Draft Guide 2026: Adjusting from H2H to Roto Leagues

Adjusting from H2H to Roto Leagues

If you have spent years playing H2H category leagues, your first roto season can feel strangely quiet. There is no opponent waiting for you on Monday morning. There is no 5-4 score to obsess over by Wednesday. There is no Sunday-night decision where you are debating whether to stream a backup center because one block could decide your entire week. There are also no fantasy playoffs waiting at the end of the season to turn three great weeks into a championship. Instead, you open the standings and you are playing everyone. That is the fundamental adjustment, but it does not mean you need to relearn fantasy basketball. If you already understand 8-cat or 9-cat H2H, most of your knowledge transfers. Player valuation still matters. Category scarcity still matters. Percentages, volume, specialists, streaming, injuries and roster construction all still matter. What changes is how you use that information.

H2H encourages you to solve short-term problems. Roto asks you to build and manage a statistical portfolio over an entire season. A weakness does not disappear next Monday. A huge week does not give you an automatic win. You are continuously trying to turn your roster into as many standings points as possible.

Once you start thinking that way, roto makes a lot more sense.

From the cliffs of Porto Moniz to the forests of Latvia. With a degree in business and a background in finance, I traded balance sheets for projection models, following a lifelong love of the game. I’ve played it, I’ve lived it and I’ve had the privilege of working inside team front offices at both the club and national level.

For over 20 years, I’ve also been immersed in the world of Fantasy Basketball, studying trends, finding edges and living the grind season after season. That passion has brought me here, to SportsEthos, where I’m honored to be part of our management team alongside the great Aaron Bruski. My mission is simple: help SportsEthos thrive as the premier home for Fantasy Sports and sports coverage. A place where users get real value and where every member of the team can sharpen their craft, find joy in the work and build something special that feels like home.
