Auction drafts are the purest form of fantasy basketball and they really do separate the intermediate player from the expert. There are so many different planes of both competition and competency, as different builds lead to variance in valuations. Throw in some good ol’ fashion auction adrenaline and owners have to be ready to execute any number of strategies.
Can you force the action or do you react to the action? Where do you zig where everybody else zagged. Auction ranks or values are really just confidence ratings. The value of your dollar is changing as the clock ticks and perceptions are all over the board. I’ve seen nearly every strategy win. Stars and scrubs. Cheap mid-round talents. Save and plunder.
The best advice to follow is to get the guys you want to get, be flexible and be ready to understand what the draft has given you. Good luck.
