We are really in the deep now. For those of you competing in the tail-end of your playoffs, you may be looking at adding some players you never even heard of. What is real? What is silly? WHAT IS GOING ON?
Calm down — I’m here to help you parse through all the stat lines and March Madness (see what I did there?) to help you identify the best names to add. Some of these names are going to mainstays that you are already familiar with from the bulk of the season; some of them are going to be new faces that you may have just seen browsing box scores. But these could be the key adds that could help secure you that win.
Here is the article layout:
- Double-Check Zone: Players who should be on a 12-team roster, but whose roster percentages suggest some leagues are lagging behind.
- Standard Leagues: Players worth an add in standard leagues with a potential path to value over a decent stretch of time (or the season).
- Streamers, Maybe More: Players on a hot streak and a path to short-term value with a smaller chance of long-term upside if certain things break their way.
- Watch-List: Players who may not quite be surefire adds yet, but should be monitored in case they trend up.
- Deep Leagues: Lower-rostered players who should be available in 14-team or 16-team leagues and beyond.
- Weekend Watch:ย A quick look at teams with strong or poor weekend schedules if you’re planning on some very short-term pickups.
All rostership percentages are per Yahoo and before the 3/18 games. All stats from Basketball Reference unless otherwise stated.
Double-Check Zone
Most of these players will be rostered in competitive leagues, but we get just enough questions about them to warrant another call-out. These are your priority adds and if anyone on this list is still available, thank your lucky stars.
CJ McCollum (62%)
Key Note(s): 18 points a game doesn’t grow on treesMcCollum could be someone a manager dropped to get in more games. He’s averaging around 18-4-4 and 2.5 triples the last few weeks. The percentages aren’t sexy, but everything else is solid.
Aaron Gordon (49%)
Key Note(s): Some post-injury effects but still solidGordon can bring the goods as long as he is healthy and playing. You may have more dynamic options available for single-day streaming, but Gordon is reliable enough.
Taylor Hendricks (8%)
Key Note(s): Finally realizing his potential?Hendricks profiled as a “1-1-1” fantasy player pre-draft. Perhaps he is finally feeling up to speed after a rough leg injury at the beginning of last season. Regardless, Hendricks appears locked into a sizeable role for the Grizzles and producing nicely across the board.
Brandin Podziemski (46%)
Key Note(s): Stephen Curry still outWith Curry still out for foreseeable future (hoping to return by the end of March), Podziemski has a clear opportunity to produce. He’s been a clear-cut top-100 player the last month and obviously should be rostered.
Isaiah Collier (44%)
Key Note(s): Keyonte George most likely out for the rest of the seasonCollier has been fantastic for assists and steals. With George set to most likely be out for the remainder of the season (he has no incentives to come back), Collier should be rostered. Some managers may look past him because of his deficiencies, but surely his assists and steals more than make up for those.
Gui Santos (37%)
Key Note(s): Kristpas Porzingis back; doesn’t matterSantos was probably a hot waiver add a few weeks ago in your leagues. Even with Kristaps Porzingis back, Santos has been putting up solid lines. He seems to be a favorite of head coach Steve Kerr’s currently, so he should be a favorite add of ours.
Honorable Mention(s): Reed Sheppard, Precious Achiuwa, Jarace Walker, Moussa Diabatรฉ
Standard Leagues
These players are either approaching 12-team value or have already seized it but every fantasy league may not have caught on to that yet. They may not be guaranteed to hold ROS value but they are worth a look nonetheless as it may be a possibility, or there may at least be some medium-to-long-term appeal.
