The Clippers made the news of the night with their dismissal of Chris Paul, though it happened after most of North America was already sleeping. Apparently Paul was a grating presence on the team — shocker — and was not on speaking terms with Ty Lue. Fantasy-wise, it’s not much of a story given that Paul was playing a bit part in the rotation, but it does push LA’s season closer to the brink. CP3 is the best Clipper of all time, and he wanted to spend his last NBA season with the team. For him to be sent home from a road trip in the middle of the night is nothing short of shocking. You would normally worry about another negative story piling on a team that’s at the bottom of the table, but the Clippers don’t have control of their first-round pick and have no incentive to tank. We’re about to see how much weight Kawhi Leonard can pull up the standings.
The other big story of the day was Zion Williamson, who is set to miss at least three weeks with a groin injury despite starting the day cleared to play vs. the Wolves. Here we go again. That will lead nicely into our top pickup, at least..
Top Pickups
This is the “general must-add” section regardless of the slate. If these players are being overlooked and remain chilling on the waiver wire, consider adding them to your squad.
Saddiq Bey (36%)
Bey was already cooking in the absence of Herb Jones, and now Zion Williamson is out for at least three weeks. The stat set isn’t perfect but Bey has minimal challengers to a massive role. He put up 22 points (7-of-12 FG, 8-of-8 FT), six rebounds and three assists last night, producing a good line without any defense or 3-pointers. Don’t overcomplicate it.
Toumani Camara (43%)
