Free throws are supposed to be the easiest points in basketball, but for fantasy managers, they can quickly become a hidden liability. A player shooting 70% on low attempts is manageable, but give that same player eight or ten trips to the line every night and suddenly you’re chasing a deficit that’s nearly impossible to erase. What makes free-throw percentage different from field-goal percentage is that when you miss, you’re not just lowering efficiency, you’re giving away free points that were already handed to you at the line. In a game as volatile as this one, that’s something you can’t afford.
This list highlights the players who, based on last season’s production, dragged your team down the most at the free-throw line. These numbers were taken from Basketball Monster’s 2024-25 top player rater, specifically the top-188 players, to determine last season’s ten worst performers (among fantasy-relevant players) in free-throw percentage. These aren’t the obvious poor shooters who never get drafted, these are stars and regular contributors whose volume turned mediocre percentages at the line turned them into category-killing anchors.
Giannis Antetokounmpo – Milwaukee Bucks
Antetokounmpo once again tops this list and continues to be the poster child for FT% punting. Across 67 games played last season, he averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists, but he also shot just 61.7% from the line on a whopping 10.6 attempts per game. That level of volume is devastating, even for a player like him, and even if you pair him with elite free-throw shooters. His 34.5% usage rate speaks to how central he remains in the Bucks’ offense, and this number may even rise higher this season considering a lack of true support around him apart from Myles Turner. While his field-goal efficiency compared to his volume is elite, his free-throw shooting has never come around. Drafting Antetokounmpo is essentially a decision to punt FT% as there is no realistic way to offset the damage he causes in that category, but at the same time, he can single-handedly win other categories with his dominance.
Zion Williamson – New Orleans Pelicans
