Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 16 of OKC’s 46 points in paint and took nine out of OKC’s 28 fta. The Nuggets are allowing the most points in the paint (52.8 ppg) and OKC’s taking the 2nd most fta out of every team still alive (25.4 fta, with Shai being responsible by 8.4 a game). If the free-throw rate remains the same and the points in the paint increase, SGA should be seen as the main beneficiary of that, as his 46/33/78 shooting splits from game one don’t reflect the extreme efficiency we’ve seen from Shai all season. More points in the paint should translate to a better efficiency and more points, specially when attached to Shai’s 30.8% usage rate from game one. SGA also grabbed 10 out of 43 Thunder boards, and that should be a focal point for OKC after losing the rebounding battle by 20. And what about assists? The Nuggets allow the most assists to opponents out of every team remaining in the Playoffs, leading to Shai dishing eight on their last game. And we’re not done yet, as Denver also possesses the highest turnover rate. All in all, Shai has a shot to be more efficient and score more while still being extremely important in the battle for the boards and taking advantage of the Nuggets allowed steals and assists. OKC needs a win at home, and the several paths for their best player to improve on his 65.5 fpts from last game are clearly delineated.
