Welcome to week 10 of Streamer Tidd-Bits! As we move deeper into the season our year-to-date matchup-based numbers are no longer looking as good as they once did. Even though we went 1-1 with our most recent round of recommendations, our lone win was thanks to Tyler Alexander striking out seven A’s (and not having the best ratios). Our loss from the week of 5/27 – 6/2, Jose Urena at the Marlins, was literally the only start in his past six (as of 6/6) that wouldn’t have qualified as a win for us *face palm*. Our year-to-date ERA is still below 4.00, but we only have one win in 16 starts, and our collective WHIP of 1.33 would no longer be helpful, even in a deep roto league. Time to clean things up.
When we look at our merit-based results from the week of 5/20 – 5/26 the story is “oh, what could’ve been”. Our first recommendation, Joe Ross, left his first start after completing just one inning and was then placed on the IL. He is currently still on the IL and is hoping to return to the Brewers’ rotation soon. Since injury prevented him from completing even one start, he is being considered an N/A in our scoring. Our other merit-base recommendation we get to review, Chris Flexen, has very mediocre numbers over his three starts since we recommended him, but that is mainly due to his start against the Orioles. As I have mentioned previously, the merit-based recommendations should be considered bench streamers so if you added Flexen hopefully you sat him for this start. If we were to only consider his starts versus the Blue Jays and the Cubs, he probably would be a win. However, like I’ve also said before, I am grading on all starts from the time I recommend a player and because of that I have to give Flexen an “L”.
