The Braves and Phillies play in the night game with Spencer Strider on the mound for the home team. In the afternoon slate, the Mariners and Pirates cap off a three game series that’s been fun to watch, with 22 total runs scored in the two games played. In last night’s Marlins-Angels game, Jorge Soler hit another bomb and the Angels showed why they’re a middling baseball club. That makes it five consecutive games with a home run for Soler.
This is for the 5/28 1:07 PM PST slate. As always, make sure to check lineups before first pitch.
Writer’s record
19-15-1
Arizona Diamondbacks ML (-125) vs Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox won the first two games of this series, and I expect the Diamondbacks to avoid the sweep here at home. Merrill Kelly is starting for the Dbacks and he’s been solid this year, with five wins under his belt and a sub three ERA.
Pittsburgh Pirates @ Seattle Mariners ML (-135)
The Pirates have really been struggling lately. Only the Guardians have scored less runs than them in May. The Mariners offense has started to heat up and they should get the series win at home.
DFS Pillar Plays
Cristian Javier
Position: P
Salary: $10,100
The Athletics have been really terrible of late. They’ve lost ten in a row and haven’t scored more than three runs in any of those ten games. Framber Valdez is the Astros ace, but Javier actually has the same K/9 as him at 9.8. He’s gotten 18+ outs in four straight starts.
Jorge Soler
Position: OF
Salary: $5,500
Soler has homered in five straight games. He’s probably going to get the Bonds treatment sooner rather than later. He has 9 of his 17 home runs against left-handed pitchers. Lefty Patrick Sandoval is getting the start for the Angels. Soler only trails Pete Alonso for most home runs on the season.
Julio Rodriguez
Position: OF
Salary: $5,400
J-Rod has two hits in each of his last four games. He is really starting to feel it, and the Mariners are one of the hottest offenses in the league at the moment. Luis Ortiz will start for the Pirates. The young right hander has given up two or more runs in each of his three starts this year.
DFS Value Plays (<$3300 Salary)
Enrique Hernandez
Position: SS
Salary: $3,300
Kike has been one of the sole providers of offense for this Red Sox team in this series. He has experience from his days with the Dodgers playing in the NL West and has gotten a hit in three straight games with four RBIs.
Yuli Gurriel
Position: 1B
Salary: $3,100
The veteran first baseman has a hit in six straight games, with four of those being multi-hit games. He’s carrying a .304 batting average and has three XBH with four runs scored during that stretch.
Mickey Moniak
Position: OF
Salary: $3,200
The former number one pick had a rough day yesterday going for 0-for-5 and making a crucial error in the field. The good news is that he started and hit first in the lineup. He’s gotten a hit in eight out of the 11 games he’s played in and already has four home runs in his young career.
