The final week of July is here, and with trade deadline rumors heating up and the playoff push looming, it’s prime time to patch holes or chase upside. Whether you’re replacing an injured closer, looking for power or a replacement at third base, or simply need a hot bat to plug in your outfield, this trio of under-rostered players could be the answer. All are trending up and available in over 50% of Yahoo leagues.
Royce Lewis, 3B, Twins (49% Yahoo)
Lewis homered twice Saturday at Coors Field and followed it up with a three-hit game and his first stolen base of the year Monday against the Dodgers. After a cold start to July (.621 OPS entering Monday), the recent outburst is a much-needed sign of life from the oft-injured third baseman. Since returning from a hamstring injury on July 5, he’s batting .294 (15-for-51) with four home runs and 15 RBI across 14 games.
The slash line is now up to .233/.259/.360, but Lewis has been a difference-maker when healthy. He’s always shown elite tools: power, speed and clutch hitting, and if he’s feeling right, this could be the beginning of a second-half surge. He should be rostered in all formats where he was dropped.
