Check back every week as we rank the QBs ahead of their potential matchups. The position is as deep as ever and you will want to know who start and who to bench based on matchups, projections and sometimes just gut feel.
3 PLAYER NAME TEAM OPP Blurb 1 Josh Allen BUF vs JAC Allen had one of the worst statistical games of his career, largely because last week's game against the Dolphins got out of hand quickly as the Bills dominated the Dolphins 31-10. He finished as the QB28, while James Cook stole the spotlight with three rushing touchdowns. However, Allen has a strong chance to bounce back in his next game at home against a Jaguars defense that is allowing the third-most passing yards per game this season, with an average of 245.5 yards. 2 Lamar Jackson BAL @ DAL Jackson finished lower than expected last week against the Raiders, but even a QB9 finish is still elite. The 27-year-old will travel to Dallas to face a Cowboys pass defense that ranks in the middle of the pack. If the Cowboys can bounce back after their tough loss to the Saints, this matchup could produce fantasy fireworks, giving Jackson a QB2 floor with a QB2 ceiling. 3 Kyler Murray ARI vs DET Murray has been utterly dominant this season. The 27-year-old finished as the QB1 last week, completing 81% of his passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding 59 rushing yards. He now faces a Detroit Lions defense that has been relatively stingy against the pass. However, given Murray's strong performance and his ability to make plays with his legs, he should be considered a top-five option on a weekly basis moving forward. 4 Jalen Hurts PHI @ NO No A.J. Brown? No problem. Hurts finished as the QB2 last week, largely thanks to his legs, rushing for 85 yards on 13 attempts and one touchdown, while also completing 76.7% of his passes for a touchdown and one interception. The upcoming matchup in New Orleans is challenging, but as long as he continues to run 10 or more times per game, he will remain a top-five option. 5 Joe Burrow CIN vs WAS Can the real Slim Shady, sorry, I mean Joe Burrow, please stand up? The 27-year-old improved from finishing as the QB29 in Week 1 to QB10 after completing 63.9% of his passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns. He is currently QB18 for the season and appears to be relatively healthy, which should boost confidence among his fantasy managers, especially with the Washington Commanders, one of the NFL's worst defenses, coming to town. 6 Patrick Mahomes II KC @ ATL Mahomes had a subpar performance despite completing 72% of his passes, throwing for only 151 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He salvaged his day with 29 rushing yards, finishing as the QB14. He remains QB12 for the season despite last week's struggles and now faces a promising matchup on the road against an Atlanta Falcons team that appeared to find its groove last week against Philadelphia. This game has all the makings of a shootout, which bodes well for both Mahomes and his opponent, Kirk Cousins. 7 Jayden Daniels WAS @ CIN Daniels experienced a letdown in Week 2 after his dominant performance in Week 1, finishing as the QB18 compared to his QB3 ranking the previous week. The main difference was a reduction in rushing attempts, dropping from 16 to 10, largely due to a neutral game script against the New York Giants. This week, we can expect him to utilize his legs more as he and the Commanders travel to Cincinnati to face Joe Burrow and the Bengals. Look for him to rush 12 or more times, giving him a solid top-10 floor with the potential for even more. 8 C.J. Stroud HOU @ MIN Stroud bounced back from an average Week 1 performance, completing 75% of his passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns, along with an additional 13 rushing yards, finishing as the QB8. This week, he faces a Minnesota team that is allowing the eighth-most passing yards per game, which bodes well for Houstonss passing attack. With Sam Darnold performing surprisingly well on the other side so far this season, this matchup could turn into a quietly high-scoring affair. 9 Baker Mayfield TB vs DEN Mayfield has been a revelation this season, currently ranking as the QB1. He has completed 73.5% of his passes for 474 yards and five touchdowns, with just one interception, and he's added 55 rushing yards and a touchdown. This week, he returns home to face a vulnerable Denver Broncos defense. With all of his Oklahoma connections healthy and ready to go, he should be considered a top-10 option this week. 10 Brock Purdy SF @ LAR Purdy bounced back from a mediocre Week 1, where he finished as the QB25 despite the win, to achieve QB13 numbers in Week 2. He completed 77.8% of his passes for 319 yards and one touchdown, with one interception, and added 12 rushing yards. This week, he faces a Los Angeles Rams defense that is allowing the ninth-most passing yards per game at 229. The Iowa State product should continue to improve, making him a trustworthy QB1 this week. 11 Anthony Richardson IND vs CHI Richards struggled last week, completing only 50% of his passes for 204 yards, one touchdown versus three interceptions. Thanks to 37 rushing yards, he finished as the QB21, but his performance mirrored his below-average play in Week 1. To his credit, he faced a tough Packers defense on the road. This week, he has a more favorable matchup at home against the Chicago Bears. Although the Bears' defense is underrated, Richards should be able to bounce back to QB1 numbers this week. 12 Dak Prescott DAL vs BAL Prescott improved from his Week 1 performance as QB22 to QB15, but he hasn't quite met the expectations of fantasy managers who drafted him in the middle rounds. The 31-year-old faces a tough matchup on paper, but the Ravens defense has allowed a league-worst 257 passing yards per game this season. This ranking is conservative, as Prescott has the potential to finish inside the top five if the Cowboys' offense can rebound from a disappointing performance against the Saints last week. 13 Jared Goff DET @ ARI Goff took a step back last week, finishing as QB18 despite throwing the ball a whopping 55 times. He recorded no touchdowns and threw two interceptions at home against the Buccaneers. This week, he aims to bounce back on the road against a Cardinals defense that has been average this season, allowing 207.0 passing yards per game. 14 Geno Smith SEA vs MIA Smith has been quietly consistent over the first two weeks of the season, finishing as the QB7 in both outings. He has accumulated 498 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, along with 38 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground. The 33-year-old has an excellent matchup this week at home against a Miami team without Tua Tagovailoa. While his upside may be capped due to the Dolphins' expected low scoring, if Skyler Thompson surprises and keeps the game competitive, Smith should easily finish as a low-end QB1/high-end QB2. 15 Kirk Cousins ATL vs KC Cousins had an impressive bounce-back performance, going from finishing as QB28 with just 8.2 fantasy points to QB8 with 17.5 points. This week, we'll see which version of Kirk Cousins is the real one, as he faces an excellent matchup at home against the Chiefs. He should be throwing frequently to keep pace with Patrick Mahomes. 16 Derek Carr NO vs PHI Carr is another quarterback who has exceeded expectations, totaling 443 yards with a 76.9% completion rate, five touchdowns, and just one interception, along with an additional rushing touchdown. He and the Saints have looked unstoppable so far this season. This week, he faces a Philadelphia team at home that is allowing the fifth-most passing yards per game at 242. While it's uncertain whether his efficiency can continue, he should be a reliable QB2 this week regardless. 17 Justin Fields PIT vs LAC Fields has been "steady Eddie" in place of Russell Wilson, completing 69.8% of his passes for a total of 273 yards and one touchdown, while also adding 84 rushing yards. He has led the Steelers to a 2-0 record during this stretch. While he hasn't wowed anyone with his fantasy stats, he finished as QB19 and QB24 over the last two weeks, respectively. Fantasy managers can expect a mid-tier QB2 floor, with the potential for more if he breaks a big run. 18 Sam Darnold MIN vs HOU Darnold has proven to be an excellent investment for the Minnesota Vikings so far this season, currently ranking as the QB10 through the first two games, averaging 18.3 fantasy points per game. Despite playing at home, he faces a tough Houston Texans defense that is allowing the 10th fewest passing yards per game this season. While he has the potential to finish higher, I'll take a conservative approach, as I'm not yet convinced he can maintain this pace. 19 Caleb Williams CHI @ IND Williams has struggled to start the season, completing just 56.1% of his passes for 267 yards, with zero touchdowns and two interceptions. He currently ranks as the QB31 overall for the first two weeks, just ahead of recently benched quarterback Bryce Young. Unfortunately, things won't get easier this week as he and the Bears travel to Indianapolis to face a Colts defense allowing the eighth-fewest passing yards per game at 163.0. Despite his challenges, the USC product still has the weapons around him to provide a low-end QB2 floor. 20 Deshaun Watson CLE vs NYG Watson bounced back from a mediocre Week 1, where he finished as QB17, to rank as QB11 in Week 2, thanks in part to a rushing touchdown. However, he still only passed for 186 yards on 22 completions, averaging 5.5 yards per attempt. The Clemson product has a relatively favorable matchup at home against the New York Giants, but I don't anticipate he'll need to do much through the air, as the Cleveland Browns defense has been particularly strong this season. 21 Trevor Lawrence JAC @ BUF Lawrence has struggled to find his rhythm this season, currently ranking as QB22. He has completed only 51% of his passes for 382 yards and one touchdown. This week, he faces a challenging matchup as he travels to Buffalo. However, fantasy managers are hopeful that he will need to throw frequently to keep up with Josh Allen and the Bills. 22 Gardner Minshew II LV vs CAR Minshew has been steady over the first two weeks, finishing as QB20 and QB17, respectively. He pulled off an upset against Baltimore, completing 78.9% of his 38 pass attempts for 276 yards and one touchdown. With a favorable matchup against the Panthers, he should remain a low-ceiling, decent-floor quarterback. 23 Matthew Stafford LAR vs SF Stafford's weapons are dropping like flies. After losing Puka Nacua in Week 1, he now loses Cooper Kupp early last week against the Cardinals. He's left with Demarcus Robinson, Tyler Johnson, and Jordan Whittington as his top pass catchers, which doesn't bode well for Stafford's ceiling. However, he will likely need to throw frequently at home against the visiting 49ers, giving him a chance to finish as a low-end QB2. 24 Aaron Rodgers NYJ vs NE Rodgers bounced back after an abysmal performance against the 49ers, throwing two touchdowns on 176 passing yards and finishing as QB12 last week. However, I don't expect this momentum to carry into Week 3, as he faces an unimpressive New England Patriots defense. There is a glimmer of hope, as the Patriots have struggled against the pass this season, allowing the sixth-most passing yards at 233. Still, this could be a Breece Hall game, with the Jets likely aiming to control the clock rather than relying heavily on the 40-year-old quarterback. 25 Malik Willis GB @ TEN Willis performed decently in his first start as a Green Bay Packer, completing 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards while adding 41 rushing yards. Green Bay didn't ask him to do too much, benefiting from a strong performance by Josh Jacobs, but it's still impressive to see the 25-year-old complete 85.7% of his passes and lead his team to victory. This week, he faces a revenge game against his former team, the Tennessee Titans, but I don't expect the Packers to rely on him heavily, aside from utilizing his legs when necessary. 26 Justin Herbert LAC @ PIT Herbert has been predictably underwhelming this season, currently ranking as QB26 through two weeks, with only 274 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Coach Jim Harbaugh has stuck to his reputation, focusing on the run game with great success, leading to a 2-0 record to start the season. This week is expected to be a low-scoring affair, which means Herbert may not be asked to do much. As a result, he has a QB3 floor with little potential for upside. 27 Will Levis TEN vs GB Levis had a bounce-back performance from Week 1 to Week 2, finishing as QB22 compared to QB27 the previous week. He and the Titans will face a stout Packers defense that has been vulnerable against the pass, allowing the seventh-most passing yards at 232 per game this season. This matchup gives the Kentucky product the potential to finish with QB2 numbers. 28 Andy Dalton CAR @ LV Dalton is making his first start since Week 3 of 2023, where he completed 34 of 58 passes for 361 yards and two touchdowns. The 36-year-old has a solid array of weapons around him, including Deontay Johnson and Adam Thielen, which gives him the potential to finish within the top 24 if everything falls into place. 29 Bo Nix DEN @ TB Nix had a promising start to his career in Week 1, rushing for 35 yards and a touchdown to finish as QB16. However, Week 2 brought a rude awakening, as the Pittsburgh Steelers shut him down, leaving him scoreless and finishing as QB27. While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have allowed the fourth-most passing yards per game at 242.5, the Broncos as a team just don't look right, and Nix still has a lot of growing to do. The Oregon product should be regarded as nothing more than a QB3/QB4. 30 Daniel Jones NYG @ CLE Jones broke out after a rough Week 1, rushing for 32 yards and passing for 178 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, finishing as the QB6 for the week. While this performance came against one of the league's worst defenses in Washington, it's encouraging to see him succeed in a favorable matchup. However, this week presents a different challenge as the Giants travel to Cleveland to face a formidable Browns defense. Expect him to struggle in this game. 31 Skylar Thompson MIA @ SEA Thompson will start for the injured Tua Tagovailoa this week and faces a tough matchup in Seattle. While he has elite weapons around him, including Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Devon Achane, his upside remains limited. If you're in desperation mode and have to start him, hope for Tyreek Hill to generate plenty of yards after the catch. 32 Jacoby Brissett NE @ NYJ We know what to expect from Brissett: a low-volume game manager with very little upside. Currently, he ranks as QB29, completing just 58.8% of his passes for 270 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. He has been effective on the ground, totaling 38 rushing yards during this span. The 31-year-old journeyman faces a tough matchup at home against the Jets. Don't expect more than the 135 passing yards he's averaging, along with 15-18 rushing yards.
