Weather Impacts on Your Fantasy Players (Friday, July 4 to Thursday, July 10)

  • Welcome to July, when the heat and humidity create one of the two best months for homers and scoring in MLB. The All-Star break is dead ahead but we can still use weather to identify the best and worst hitting environments before we reach the mid-summer classic.

The weather looks typical for early summer for the next seven days. However, it will be a little warmer than average in the Ohio Valley this weekend. The Northeast will be a little warmer than average early next week but I don’t expect many extreme temps anywhere next week. Typical West Coast chilly weather gives us a couple series to avoid this weekend and early next week. Let’s get to the details!

    TARGETS:

    This Weekend’s Best Hitting Environments

    • Tampa Bay at Minnesota (Friday only; hot with temperatures near 90 degrees plus gusty cross/outbound winds for this game… but note that Saturday and Sunday are not good because of rain and cooler air)
    • Detroit at Cleveland (Friday-Sunday; 85-90 degrees with very low rain chances)
    • Baltimore at Atlanta (Friday-Sunday; some good Hotlanta heat and humidity with only isolated thunderstorms)
    • Chicago White Sox at Colorado (Friday-Sunday; can’t go wrong with a nice summer weekend at Coors)
    •  St. Louis at Chicago Cubs (Saturday only; temps near 92 degrees with a nice outbound breeze making this day the best hitting environment of the weekend)

    Targets for Early Next Week:

    • Miami at Cincinnati (Monday-Thursday; temps near 85 each day with a bit of humidity although a few thunderstorms are possible by Wednesday)
    • Atlanta at Athletics (Tuesday-Thursday; 85-90 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday then 95 on Thursday in MLB’s hottest game of the week)

That’s it for the list of best games to target. Now let’s see which ones to avoid during the next seven days:
