Welcome to week 21 of Streamer Tidd-Bits! Over the last several weeks we’ve been discussing how we are getting close to the end of the season, and the last day of the upcoming week will finally be the start of September. If you ask me, the end of September can’t get here quickly enough. Over the last two weeks I’ve endured blowup starts from Nick Lodolo and then Matt Waldron, both on multiple teams, and chances are that a majority of you have seen your pitching ratios move in the wrong direction over the last few weeks as well. The worst part about those blowups is that I wasn’t even being risky with streaming fringe starters, both Lodolo and Waldron have played significant roles on my staffs for most of the season and all of their contributions to my teams’ ERAs and WHIPs are now washed away. Now that I’ve vented a little, maybe you’ve felt the impact of these blowups as well, I’m ready to put my nose to grindstone and do my best to avoid any more landmine outings from here on out.
Before we move on to this week’s adds, we need to first review our latest round of merit-based and matchup-based adds. We split our merit-based adds from the week of 8/5 – 8/11, and had Paul Blackburn allowed three fewer runs or so he’d probably have been a win. Unfortunately, his 4.50 ERA was a tad too high for him to be considered a win. However, his counterpart, Jeffrey Springs, showed why he was highly touted in drafts last season as he struck out 18 over 15 innings across his three starts, earning a win. His WHIP was a little high at 1.33, but his 3.60 ERA definitely made up for it. Next up are our matchup-based adds from the week of 8/12 – 8/18. Despite trying to avoid two-start starters for this segment, both picks ended up having two start weeks even though Taijuan Walker was only projected for one. Luckily for us, Walker’s second start pushed him over our strikeout threshold despite his line for the week being ugly. Hey, a win is a win. Finally, we have Sandy K-, I mean Bowden Francis. Francis hands down had our best matchup-based week of the year, as he dominated his two-start week against the Angels and Cubs. I really wish I had prioritized him higher in my bid lists that week, but I didn’t expect him to do anywhere close to this well. Hopefully some of you were able to benefit from his great week. With all that said, here are our recommendations for the week of 8/26 – 9/1.
