It’s Wednesday again and we have a pair of rookie call-ups to speculate on as well as the next man up in Toronto:
Orelvis Martinez – 2B, 3B, SS – TOR – 19% Yahoo, 48% Fantrax
The Blue Jays have called up infield prospect Orelvis Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo, following Bo Bichette’s placement on the 10-day injured list due to a calf injury. Martinez, a top prospect, has been impressive in Triple-A this season, posting a .260/.343/.523 slash line with 16 home runs, 14 doubles, and 46 RBI over 63 games. The 22-year-old Martinez has shown versatility in the infield, capable of playing second base, third base, and shortstop, though he hasn’t played shortstop this season. With Bichette out, Martinez is expected to see time at second and third base, while Isiah Kiner-Falefa likely fills in at shortstop.
Martinez’s power and solid performance in Triple-A make him an intriguing addition for fantasy managers, especially those in deeper leagues or looking for a spark in the infield. His promotion provides his first opportunity to showcase his talent at the major league level, and he could offer valuable contributions in the power department while Bichette is out.
