Four arms got saves in Tampa, silly season has struck Boston, change is happenin’ for the snakes and do we have a new closer for the Yanks? So many changes are happening across the league and I’m here to help.

And of course the holds situation is always changing.

For the closer’s roles, I have four tiers:

Strong – No reason to believe they will be losing the job.

Solid – They are still the closer, but there is a chance it can change.

Weak – They’re a CINO  (Closer in name only) and are in clear danger of losing the job.

Committee – there is no set closer and numerous arms could get the call.

For holds, I’ll be listing the names of the dudes who have gotten holds most recently and telling you which ones to trust.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Closer – Committee – (LW: Justin Martinez – Weak)

A.J. Puk got the only save over the last seven days.

Justin Martinez came in the seventh inning while Puk got the ninth. However, Martinez blew the save but giving up three hits and a run on Sunday.

I’ve been saying Puk will be getting the call for the ninth due to the incredible run he has been on (he has not allowed a run since August 2). and it finally happened.

But nothing official has been announced so this is a two-person committee in my book.

Martinez has done better as of late with five out of seven outings being scoreless.

He does still own a 4.85 ERA in his last 13 games, so the edge should be given to Puk.

Holds

Joe Mantiply and Kevin Ginkel each got two holds while Ryan Thompson and Martinez each got one.

Mantiply and Ginkel have had their struggles lately as they are hard to trust.

Puk and Martinez are the only two must-roster arms in this ‘pen for saves+holds. Ginkel, Mantiply and Thompson are all dart throws.
