Every week I will do a quick drive thru of the all the games and cover the relevant fantasy points. I will look at things that might be fluky or here to stay and try and point everyone in the right direction for the future. We never want to overreact to a small-sample size, but sometimes getting in too early is still better than missing the boat entirely.
Bills 31- Dolphins 10
Tua Tagovailoa suffered another concussion and his season is in jeopardy as he was just placed on the short-term IR. He could still return in a couple of weeks, but until then Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle get downgraded significantly even though Hill is essentially QB proof. De’Von Achane is the ultimate mystery box and as long as he is healthy, he might be the best dual-threat RB in the league. Raheem Mostert was out and hopefully he’s back soon, but the Dolphins are in big trouble. Skylar Thompson is only an option in Superflex leagues. James Cook is a threat to be the RB1 this season and he looked amazing on a short week. The nature of the game made Josh Allen redundant and he didn’t run or throw like he normally does vs. Miami. It won’t happen again. The Bills’ WR core is going to remain a carousel and you can’t trust anyone week-to-week, but Khalil Shakir is the least risky option. The TE wasteland continues as Dalton Kincaid did more, but still not enough to warrant his draft capital.
Pickup of the game: Skylar Thompson – Priority low unless you’re desperate in Superflex
Saints 44 – Cowboys 19
This game was a shocker, but Alvin Kamara running rampant shouldn’t be. He’s drawn a target on 33 percent of his pass routes in two blowout game scripts, a jump from his 29 percent rate in 2023 The Saints are marching and Derek Carr looks reinvigorated in the new offense. He’s a legit QB1 while he is slinging the ball like this. He only had 16 pass attempts, but he made the most of them. Chris Olave bounced back and is a legit WR1 with this new downfield attack. Rashid Shaheed was great again and is looking like a steal in redraft leagues. He has 169 receiving yards on 161 air yards. Start him every week. Kamara is the engine of this offense, but he is a great sell-high candidate if you can get someone to pay top dollar. Dak Prescott was playing catchup all game and that led to him attempting 39 passes. The two picks at home were surprising and the entire Dallas team was out of sorts. The running game was non-existent, but Rico Dowdle is a better fantasy option than Ezekiel Elliott. CeeDee Lamb got loose for a monster TD, but was held in check the rest of the game. This game was a throwaway and the Cowboys should be much better in Week 3. Jalen Tolbert looked good and he could be worth a waiver wire move since Brandin Cooks looked his age.
Pickup of the game – WR Jalen Tolbert – Priority medium
Buccaneers 20 – Lions 16
This was another shocker as the Lions went down at home in a playoff rematch. Jared Goff’s completion rate over expected ranked 24th out of 30 qualifying quarterbacks and his yards per attempt is 29th out of 33 Baker Mayfield is no one-year reclamation wonder and he was electric on the ground and did just enough through the air. Chris Godwin is back and he’s not even a sell-high. Just ride the wave. The Buccs couldn’t run on the Lions which isn’t surprising, but Bucky Irving continues to each into Rachaad White’s production. Mike Evans will be fine, but Godwin is the WR1 for now. Jared Goff passed 55 times and only three went to Sam LaPorta. The Lions have to figure out their hierarchy and it shouldn’t be Jameson Williams getting 11 targets. He looks great though and is really stretching the field. Jahmyr Gibbs is crushing it and the game script didn’t really allow for David Montgomery to do much. Amon-Ra St. Brown rebounded well which everyone knew, but also got hurt and could be in danger of missing Week 3. He will probably be fine. LaPorta needs more touches.
Pickup of the game – RB Bucky Irving – Priority high
Packers 16 – Colts 10
This was the trap game of the season and if you bet Colts, you are a sucker. The Packers had a perfect gameplan and ran the ball down Indy throats. Malik Willis wasn’t great, but he didn’t have to be. This was vintage Josh Jacobs and he was a smash play this week. The Packers only had 12 completions, so Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson all had subpar games. It’s hard to start any of them until Jordan Love is back. Anthony Richardson through three picks and he’s still a work in progress. The 37 rushing yards were nice, but he was held in check. He will probably boom next week. Jonathan Taylor started slow, but will is the only real fantasy player you can trust each week. He needs more touches. Michael Pittman is did nothing again and he’s really going to struggle while the Colts figure out their passing game. Alec Pierce may have made the leap. Pierce has 40 percent of the Colts’ air yards and a 20 percent target share, second only to Pittman’s 30 percent target share. Grab him.
Pickup of the Game – WR Alec Pierce– Priority medium
Jets 24 – Titans 17
The Jets were able to bounce back and sneak out a win, but they still don’t look right. Garrett Wilson is still not who we think he is and Breece Hall is monster. Allen Lazard was a no-show, but Braelon Allen scored two TDs and is worth a look. Aaron Rodgers was fine, but he’s still working his way into game-shape. Wilson is due eventually and it’s just a matter of time. Will Levis is still bad and that’s not going to change. Tony Pollard was solid and he’s the best part of this offense. He’s back. Try and trade for him if you can. Calvin Ridley looked great and is the WR1 because Deandre Hopkins isn’t close to 100%. The Titans are hard to trust and it’s almost all because of Levis.
Pickup of the game – WR Braelon Allen – Priority high especially if you have Hall
Vikings 23 – Niners 17
This whole week was bizzaro world and the Vikings took it to the Niners. Sam Darnold is here to stay for now and as long as Justin Jefferson isn’t seriously hurt, the offense should be be able to sustain itself. He’s completed five of his seven downfield shots for 210 yards and two touchdowns this season. Ty Chandler is a beast and is stealing carries from Aaron Jones. Jalen Nailor looks like WR2, but isn’t a must-grab as long as Jefferson suits up for Week 3. Jones is more of a threat in the passing game than running game at this point, but Chandler is hurting his fantasy value. Pick up Chandler is he’s on the wire because Jones might get hurt. Brock Purdy went off in a negative game-script and threw for over 300 yards. That means Deebo Samuel went off and even George Kittle was great until he cramped up. Brandon Aiyuk should be ramped up now and is poised to reclaim WR1 status. Jordan Mason is the steal of fantasy and is still chugging along despite the pass-heavy game-script.
Pickup of the game – RB Ty Chandler – Priority high
