Mock drafts are great. It’s like a dry run for the real thing, but even a wedding rehearsal isn’t going to have the same energy until there are real stakes. This was my first mock draft of the season even though I have been doing a Best Ball draft every Friday. Everyone always loves their own mock draft and I won’t diverge here. This draft fell perfectly and will be close to my blueprint going forward. It was a 2WR draft which I don’t love, so I approached it as if it was a normal 3WR if that makes sense. I’m only doing the first 10 rounds because that’s about as long as people stuck around and there is no point drafting against auto-draft as it doesn’t really tell you much. Since it is still so early in the summer, I’m sure many of my opinions will adjust, but for now this is a great snapshot of how I view the upcoming fantasy football season.
Here’s a round-by-round review of my mock draft.
Round 1
1) Tim – Bijan Robinson (Atl – RB)
(2) Brad – Jahmyr Gibbs (Det – RB)
(3) peter – Ja’Marr Chase (Cin – WR)
(4) Marcus – Puka Nacua (LAR – WR)
(5) Team 5 – Jonathan Taylor (Ind – RB)
(6) Deklan – Omarion Hampton (LAC – RB)
(7) Bob – Christian McCaffrey (SF – RB)
(8) MJ – Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Sea – WR)
(9) E-Love the elder – CeeDee Lamb (Dal – WR)
(10) John – Amon-Ra St. Brown (Det – WR)
(11) Lee – James Cook III (Buf – RB)
(12) Eric – Brock Bowers (LV – TE)I was really torn between going JSN or St. Brown here, but I just can’t help going RB early in my drafts because I know WR is so deep and there are so many stud WRs down the board. Taylor isn’t my favorite RB this season, but he was on a historic pace before Daniel Jones went down. Pick five isn’t a bad spot, but getting St. Brown at 10 seems like the clear steal of this round considering I was thinking about taking him at five. As much as I want a first-round RB, I wouldn’t take CMC after his huge usage or Hampton. CMC is a hard pass for me and while Hampton might be great, I need a track record for my first pick. It’s really one of the first three RBs or go superstar WR. Getting James Cook is also great because his floor is so high since he seems to score a TD every game.
Round 2
(1) Eric – Jeremiyah Love (Ari – RB)
(2) Lee – DeVonta Smith (Phi – WR)
(3) John – Justin Jefferson (Min – WR)
(4) E-Love the elder – Ashton Jeanty (LV – RB)
(5) MJ – Chase Brown (Cin – RB)
(6) Bob – Kenneth Walker III (KC – RB)
(7) Deklan – Saquon Barkley (Phi – RB)
(8) Team 5 – De’Von Achane (Mia – RB)
(9) Marcus – Drake London (Atl – WR)
(10) peter – George Pickens (Dal – WR)
(11) Brad – Josh Allen (Buf – QB)
(12) Tim – Nico Collins (Hou – WR)It appears I might be alone on Achane island this season. This was a no-brainer for me and I consider Achane a first round pick. They fortified the o-line with the draft and now with Malik Willis under center, they should have a top-five rushing attack. Achane might look like CMC this season but with more explosiveness, it’s possible I get him in every league. I would be happy be Chase Brown or Kenneth Walker, but I’m not sure I trust Barkley at all. The rookie Love seems crazy high to me although I like the ARI offense, I just don’t see them running enough nor being able to keep Love from getting hit behind the line of scrimmage. Josh Allen is always a good value even though this is kind of crazy. If I couldn’t get one of my preferred RBs, I might grab Trey McBride, but I hate drafting a player the season after his apex. I’m coming around on Jeanty, but would have him behind Achane, Brown and possibly tied with Walker. The Kubiak addition can’t be ignored for Vegas.
