Fantasy Basketball Draft Guide 2026: High Mileage Report

By Mike Passador Published September 20, 2026 3 min read

Time comes for us all, whether you’re the best basketball player of all time or just some random person waiting for the bus (if this is you – hello!). The end arrives eventually but a select few players rage, rage against the dying of the light and keep on fighting the good fight as the sun slowly sets. The High Mileage Report is their space; we’re going to look at the league’s older players and sort out what fantasy managers should expect from them. Decline is inevitable but you also have to remember the selection bias here — you don’t keep getting contracts after age 35 unless you’re still good enough to outplay younger, cheaper alternatives. As such, this group is full of proven fantasy mainstays who will be universally drafted. Some of them will find their ADPs depressed because of all the miles on the engine, but the question remains how much they still have to give. That’s why we’re here.

Beyond our usual age-related definition of high mileage, we’re also going to take a quick look at the players who racked up a ton of playing time last season. Minutes are minutes, after all, and that wear and tear may be more treacherous than an older player — who, by now, knows how to stay in peak condition — simply existing for another season. Our goal here is to take a look at the players who have been the busiest, either cumulatively or in the recent past, and take a stab at what sort of effect that will have on their fantasy prospects.

The Old Guys

LeBron James – 41 years old

Be honest – LeBron is the guy you thought of when you saw the title of this article. Well, here he is. The league’s elder statesman is slowing down but even a slowed-down LeBron is a game-changing talent. Just ask the Rockets.

James moved on from the Lakers and signed a two-year deal with the Sixers and we’re likely looking at the last two seasons of James’ remarkable (to put it lightly) career. Last season he was dogged by injuries and the league’s oldest player missing time for sciatica and joint arthritis is a bit on the nose, but when James played he was still at an All-NBA level for the most part. While James was a top-50 player, it was impossible not to notice some of the slippage across the box score. The Lakers became Luka Doncic’s team, and between that fact and James’ absences, his shot volume fell by nearly three attempts per game. His 3-point volume fell by nearly two attempts per game (and his 3-point efficiency slipped to just .317 as well). James also lost 1.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game despite a more-than-serviceable 33.1 mpg. James wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t otherworldly. Which brings us to this upcoming season.
