Fantasy Basketball Draft Guide 2026: Atlanta Hawks Team Preview

How’d We Get Here?
The Hawks made their big splash in the middle of last season, jettisoning Trae Young (and his impending contract talks) as well as newcomer Kristaps Porzingis to clear the deck for the players who had actually been helping them win games. Jalen Johnson and Nickeil Alexander-Walker were fabulous, Dyson Daniels and Onyeka Okongwu were as steady as ever and CJ McCollum provided quality scoring depth. The Hawks retooled on the fly and pushed the eventual champs harder than anyone else in the postseason despite a tough first-round exit at the hands of the Knicks. The Eastern Conference turned into a meat grinder over the summer but the Hawks continued to add quality depth, taking some key wings from Oklahoma City in Lu Dort and Aaron Wiggins while adding a pair of backup PGs in separate trades with the Kings and Mavs. McCollum and backup big Jock Landale were re-signed to bolster the second unit. Atlanta also managed to nab talented combo guard Kingston Flemings with the pick they acquired in last year’s Derik Queen trade with the Pelicans, later scooping big man Zuby Ejiofor in the late first and the versatile Henri Veesaar deep into the second round when he was expected to come off the board somewhere around the No. 30 ballpark. The Hawks may not have the same sizzle as some of their competition, but they are deeper than they were a year ago and still look like a team on the rise that can really lean into a defensive identity given their personnel up and down the depth chart.
