With the start of the NFL playoffs this week, we’re stuck with only 4 games of NBA Basketball this Sunday. But with an early showdown slate, a main slate, and even a late-night slate, there’s more than enough to get our DFS fix in.

I’m going to focus on the 3-game main slate here that features one team on the second leg of a back-to-back and only a couple of statuses that we’ll keep an eye out for.

    Player Tiers

    Expensive Tier

Karl-Anthony Towns ($10,300) – While Edwards exploded against the Warriors in the first meeting between these guys, Towns was productive as well. Take out Draymond and add in Klay on the other end, and Towns suddenly is looking like the more attractive play despite the price increase. The Dubs don’t have a backup C and Looney does have games where he’s prone to get into foul trouble, setting up a very enticing environment for Towns to hit his upside.

Christian Wood ($8,000) – While the potential return of Richaun Holmes could put a slight dent into this, Wood has been rolling lately. He has 40+ points in 3 of his last 4 games, including against this same Kings team in the previous game dropping 26 points, 8 boards, and 3 stocks in only 26 minutes. If Wood didn’t get into foul trouble, he very likely would have put up 50 points with room for more. We should expect him to get to 32-35 minutes in this one and carry that same 50-point ceiling.

    Mid-Tier

Richaun Holmes ($5,300) – This is a status that we’ll have to keep an eye on as Holmes is questionable for this one and hasn’t played in 2022 yet. On the other end of the last player mentioned, Holmes is at such a low price for being out so long, and not playing well in the few games to close out 2021. Even still, if he is ready to go his full allotment of minutes, the matchup and price have us drooling over the upside. If he can’t go we can pivot to his frontcourt mates, but definitely keep him in mind when filling out that lineup.

Jordan Poole – ($5,400) – With Curry sidelined, Klay still on a minute’s limit, and GP2 out, Poole will have every opportunity to be a focal point of the offense in a plus matchup. He took 19 shots in the blowout win against the Bulls, and a similar workload should once again be in play here. With a reasonable price tag and upside at his side, he’s a favorite target of mine on today’s slate.

    Value

Gary Payton II ($4,300) – I just mentioned Poole, and if Payton is ready to go as well, he will also be in a great spot to produce here. Without Curry and Draymond, there’s a lot of minutes and playmaking to go around. Payton would draw the start at PG. We know his ability to be a terror in the passing lanes, and with the added opportunity on offense, this price tag is too low for the upside he possesses when it all clicks.

Monte Morris ($4,800) – Morris has played just 22 minutes each in the last two games, but don’t let that scare you off as both of those games were absolute blowouts. Morris should be closer to 32 minutes in this matchup and under 5K, he looks to be a nice safety valve in cash games. He doesn’t have that big time upside in this matchup, but I expect over 27 points and nice value from the guard here for those who like to play it safer.
