• The 2023 draft has come and gone, but the reload for next season is far from over. The first 48 hours of free agency are sure to be chaotic, as they are every year, so in preparation we wanted to give you a bit of a primer to discuss each team’s needs. We’ll throw out some names that might fit the bill here and there, but mostly we’re trying to project what each front office is feeling about their team.

Here are the team needs for each NBA team entering free agency:

    Landry Fields
    General Manager, Atlanta Hawks

Draft Picks: Kobe Bufkin (G), Mouhamed Gueye (F/C)

Expiring Contracts: Aaron Holiday (UFA), Trent Forrest (RFA)

    Team Needs: Defensive wing stopper

In-Depth Analysis: After the Hawks salary dumped John Collins for Rudy Gay and a second round pick, they cleared up some cap space to fill out this roster around Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. Last season was… not great, but they very much have the same needs on this roster as last offseason. They need someone to step in and be that wing stopper to bring their defense to the next level. The Hawks have been linked to Jaylen Brown, OG Anunoby and Patrick Williams already as some examples, though nothing seems to have gained traction just yet. It seems like they’re trying to make a big splash, and it’s also clear that they’re ready to move on from De’Andre Hunter, who has consistently popped up in trade rumors for this team.
