Late Draft WR Sleepers
Everyone is familiar with the premier names in fantasy drafts, but what about the steals at the end of the draft? Drafting late round sleepers to fill out the bottom of your bench can be the difference in winning and losing while your more valuable players are on bye.
When drafting for these types of players, I prefer to target options that will pan out earlier rather than later. In the case that your team starts hot and you can wait for something to happen or passively scour the waiver wire for late-season bloomers, that is even better. However, assuming we cannot win each of the first six weeks, it is important to be able to have players you know should stick around, or be dropped, as early as possible.
Here are three of my favorite targets late in drafts.
Romeo Doubs, GB
42 receptions, 425 yards, 3 TD in 2022
While Christian Watson has received the most buzz in the fantasy community when it comes to Green Bay WRs, the price to value ratio favors Doubs. The Packers will look for both to step up in their sophomore seasons after the departure of Allen Lazard, who led the team in targets in 2022. In one fewer game than his rookie counterpart, Doubs edged out Watson in targets and receptions.
The clear argument to be made for Watson is how much more valuable a target is to him than Doubs. While I could not agree more, with Watson grabbing seven TDs compared to Doubs’s three, the difference is already baked into the ADP. Watson costs a valuable pick and will rely on hefty TD counts but boasts a much higher ceiling. Doubs, on the other hand, is a safe, floor option who will eat in PPR leagues and costs only your final pick in most fantasy drafts.
Doubs also projects to see more action with Love at QB this season. The Packers will likely increase the pace of play this year to account for the change of signal caller and Doubs is poised to benefit the most from that as the premier slot option in Green Bay. Love will look to keep drives moving by targeting receivers over the middle, further enhancing Doubs’s value in PPR formats.
Camp reports have been high on Doubs, claiming he and Love have built some rapport. The young QB may look to Doubs as the primary safety valve and pepper him with targets throughout games.
