Tremont Waters will enter Friday as a restricted free agent after the Celtics extended a qualifying offer to the point guard.

The Celtics chose not to make Brad Wanamaker a restricted free agent but are making that move with Waters. The younger Waters will likely cost the Celtics less in free agency which would give them more money to work with elsewhere on their roster. Waters will be in competition with newly drafted rookie Payton Pritchard for third-string point guard minutes.
