The NBA has informed teams that it is targeting no earlier than May 8 for the re-opening of practice facilities where stay-at-home restrictions have been loosened.
Initially the league was looking at May 1 but the Hawks, located in one of the first states to open, had no plans to open their facilities until they saw the effects of eased restrictions on the rest of the state. Between that, safety concerns and competitive balance issues — teams in less-effected states would have more time to get back in shape — it makes sense for the NBA to push things back.
