Lean: 3-4 -1.2uLet’s acknowledge the elephant in the room: My picks last week STUNK. I’ll mention I was 7-10 in WagerPass plays, but wow I was 1-10 in plays I called in these previews. Terrible, terrible results, but the good news is that we have 15 weeks left to get it right, so let’s get right into it.
The Bears are feeling about as confident as I am heading into Week 3 with a matchup against the Super Bowl champions. To say the Bears have had some drama over the past week would be drastically underselling it. First, starting quarterback Justin Fields seemed to blame the coaching staff for his poor play this season before walking those comments back later. The bigger story is that the Bears’ defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned from his role abruptly while also having his home searched by the FBI. Either way, there’s plenty of dysfunction in Chicago and the Chiefs are a heavy, heavy favorite as a result.
Main Storylines to Watch
Will Justin Fields run more? Fields wasn’t exactly a professional in criticizing his coaches, but he wasn’t exactly wrong either. The Bears coaching staff has seemingly tried to turn Fields into a pocket-passing quarterback, and that’s just simply not his strength. Fields promised to play more “free” in Week 3, which means rolling out of the pocket and using his legs to get first downs. There are some issues with that as well, which I’ll explain more below.
Can Travis Kelce get back up to speed? We all had a bit of an injury scare before the season started as Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee. He only missed a week, but we’re waiting for that Kelce ceiling to show up. Will it happen against the terrible defense of the Bears or will we have to wait a little longer? The Chiefs may choose to sleepwalk through this one, giving us less than the maximum ceiling for each guy.
