• How’d We Get Here?

The Kings were supposed to get closer to the playoffs, if not make them outright, last season. Instead they hired a coach who made the team stop running, neutralizing their best competitive advantage. The front office spent a ton of money on aging free agents and saw each of those moves blow up in their collective face, with the team pulling the chute on two of those decisions by mid-season. De’Aaron Fox got hurt for a bit, Marvin Bagley got hurt for a lot, Buddy Hield butted heads with Luke Walton and the Kings looked like a complete mess by the end of the year. Oh, and their GM resigned. If nothing else, at least they stumbled upon Richaun Holmes for the silver lining of a disappointing season.

On the flip side, they put together what looks like a real front office and the fanbase seems optimistic about the new decision-makers. The Kings almost dealt Bogdan Bogdanovic to the Bucks but that deal was quickly destroyed by the fact that Bogdanovic never agreed to the terms of the sign-and-trade. At least we still got our Kangz moment before Bogdanovic walked to the Hawks on an offer sheet. Monte McNair made his first big decision to avoid a questionable long-term commitment and the Kings are set to rebuild around De’Aaron Fox.
