• How’d We Get Here?

The Clippers, a team that many chose to crown in the offseason, completely bombed out in the postseason, losing a 3-1 series lead to a Nuggets team that got pretty much all its points from two guys. Kawhi Leonard could only do so much as Paul George struggled and the Clippers’ supporting cast got exposed in the worst way. That the star duo was atrocious in Game 7 only underscored the team’s problems as all of the Clippers’ theoretical success never showed up on the court. The team appeared to lack chemistry and got severely outcoached, and whether they want to admit it or not, the clock is ticking with Kawhi’s opt-out decisions coming up after this season. Doc Rivers took the fall but there’s still plenty to be done despite the team’s immense talent.

The offseason got off to a rocky start with the Lakers signing Montrezl Harrell out from underneath the Clips, but they were able to swing things back in a more positive direction by signing Serge Ibaka. Picking up Luke Kennard was also a nice piece of business, while the massive Marcus Morris contract was questionable. It’s hard to say if the Clippers are an improved team in the aggregate, but their top two acquisitions are definite upgrades from last year’s squad.
