How’d We Get Here?
The Mavs may have been bounced by a title-favorite Clippers squad, but they gave them a big scare. The Luka Doncic – Kristaps Porzingis connection was outstanding and gives the Mavs an elite young core to build around for years to come. The season-ending injury to Dwight Powell was a tough break but the Mavs kept on fighting and rode their star duo to a promising season that portends well for the future in Dallas. While a first-round loss definitely wasn’t the desired result, the Mavs look to be ahead of schedule thanks to Doncic’s brilliance.
Dallas was very open about its pursuit of wing help this offseason and largely delivered, focusing on versatile defenders with pickups of Josh Richardson and James Johnson while getting some great value throughout the draft. With Porzingis dealing with another health scare, the Mavs are going to hope that improved defensive personnel can help keep the team afloat in the interim.
