• How’d We Get Here?

The Bulls finally shook things up in the executive suite, and now Arturas Karnisovas is tasked with turning the wayward franchise around. Luckily for him, Chicago boasts a decent stable of young talent plus a number of competent veterans. Whether he wants to retool the core or add to an interesting foundation, Karnisovas will be given the latitude to do what he sees fit with the roster, making his first mark by hiring Billy Donovan as bench boss. Accounting for the quality of the Eastern Conference, the Bulls should be gunning for a playoff appearance — or at least a playoff race — given the potential of their top players.

The rest of the offseason was quiet, with the Bulls opting for a pragmatic approach in free agency rather than spending recklessly. You can quibble with the decisions to let Kris Dunn and Shaq Harrison leave for nothing, but Karnisovas and company clearly have a vision for what the Bulls will look like and aren’t going to stick with players that don’t fit it.
