Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week Two

By Anthony Quaranta Published September 22, 2026 4 min read

Week two offers another slew of data points for us to examine, including talent, opportunity, scheme fit, and usage. Quarterback injuries are the main storyline for this week, Superflex leagues beware: it’s QB2 season! Compared to week one, it was a tough week from a scoring perspective as well but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some value to be had on the waive wire.

I’ll be pulling ownership percent’s from the three major fantasy platforms: Sleeper, Yahoo, and ESPN. The goal will be to have player available in over half of league only, there will be some player who are more widely rostered on various platforms. It’s always worth checking regardless of your league size, platform, etc. If a player is slightly above 50% but is a must roster, I will include them as well. The purpose of that is to help leagues of all size and experience levels. Not everything can be geared towards high level fantasy leagues, as casual leagues need advice too!

Quarterbacks

Geno Smith and the New York Jets look to be more viable than most pundits gave them credit for. A big win in week one, and a tightly contested contest in week two have them firmly back on the radar as start able option. Another 247 passing yards, a touchdown, and five rushes for 17 additional yards is a solid streaming day overall, even if it’s not game breaking. WR’s Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell, rookie TE Kenyon Sadiq, and RB Breece Hall have proven to be reliable pass catchers for Gang Green as well. We don’t think of Geno as one of the mobile QB’s, but eleven rush attempts in two weeks (six in week one) may help stabilize the floor slightly, even if it hasn’t produced a lot of yards as of yet. The opportunities are important to note, and Smith is firmly a streamer for those who may have lost Caleb Williams (hamstring) or just need depth while playing Russian Roulette at the position. He’s most definitely rostered in superflex leagues already, but if not, blow the budget. (FAAB: 3-5%)

Ownership: Sleeper 10%, Yahoo 5%, ESPN 4%

Michael Penix (knee) is looking like he may be the Falcons savior this season, if we can call him that. Look, the QB room in Atlanta is ugly. Veteran Tua Tagovailoa (back) had a tough training camp and feels like a lame duck QB once (if) he gets a shot in the regular season. Journeyman Cooper Rush has already flamed out, and undrafted rookie Jack Strand is a long shot who threw a pick six on career pass attempt number one. We got word on Monday that Penix is ready to roll and getting the nod in week three. The Falcons have a ton of talent on offense and a good head coach, they just need to find the right QB. The former eighth overall pick very likely gives this team the highest ceiling. (FAAB: 5%, Superflex 35%)

Ownership: Sleeper 7%, Yahoo 3%, ESPN 1%

Famous Jameis Winston used to be fun, and the Giants may need him to be fun once again. Dart (knee) went down during the first drive on MNF, and the version we saw of the 2015 first overall pick was flat out awful. However, just a season ago Winston had himself a game. Remember when he had an unreal touchdown catch and run against Detroit? Now that was fun. I can’t imagine we’ll see him line up out wide, but he also threw for 366 tards and two scores in that one. His last meaningful stretch of ball came in 2024 with seven straight games of 77-100% of the snaps. It was a mixed bag with finishes of QB24, 10, 21, 6, 18, 1, 12, and 33. Superflex value is there. (FAAB: 1%, Superflex 25%)

Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%, ESPN 0%

Marcus Mariota is the next man up in Washington after Jayden Daniels (elbow) dislocated his left elbow for the second time in as many seasons. The second overall pick in that 2015 draft that saw Winston go number one is back eleven years later to prove they still belong. In seven games last year where he saw the vast majority of snaps, he had three top nine finishes, and three more inside the top 20. With no clear timetable for Daniels to return just yet, Mariota is probably the best bet for backup QB’s on waivers this week especially considering his rushing floor remains viable. (FAAB: 0%, Superflex 40-60%)

Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%, ESPN 0%

Tyson Bagent  is the next beneficiary of an injury of the guy in front of him. It’s looking like Bears starter Caleb Williams (hamstring) avoided catastrophe but is being labeled week to week. This Bears offense should be a good one with HC Ben Johnson manning a ship with a bevvy of weapons at his disposal. It’s hard to believe this guy is already in his fourth NFL season, and the last time we truly saw him was his rookie year in 2023 with finished of QB20, 22, 9. and 25. It wasn’t great, but there is some value. Hopefully we see that some development occurred in the background over the last few seasons. (FAAB: 0%, Superflex 15-20%)

Ownership: Sleeper 0%, Yahoo 0%, ESPN 0%
