How’d We Get Here?
The Bulls decided to embrace another rebuild last season but did so far too late in the game to make a difference, shedding Nikola Vucevic, Coby White and Kevin Huerter’s expiring contracts for very little in return. Most of what they got back — chiefly Collin Sexton, Anfernee Simons, Jaden Ivey, Nick Richards, Guerschon Yabusele — is already onto the next chapter while the Bulls are left with a few young players to build around on the long road ahead. Chicago did acquire Nic Claxton for a song and sign professional scorer Norman Powell in free agency, but their big moves came off the court. Arturas Karnisovas was shown the door and Bryson Graham replaced him as the new EVP of Basketball Operations. Billy Donovan stepped down and the Bulls chose Tiago Splitter as their next head coach. If nothing else, a new set of eyes up top and a new voice behind the bench will be beneficial as Chicago starts anew. They’ll be hoping that No. 4 overall pick Caleb Wilson becomes the guy that can carry this franchise back to prominence, with Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis filling out the rest of the team’s new core.
