It’s your resident Aussie Brenton James coming in with the hottest adds off the Waiver Wire. Lets get stuck in!
Standard Leagues
(<50% rostered on Yahoo)
Caris Levert, SG/SF, Cavaliers (46% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 34 minutes, 15 points (5-of-15 FG, 3-of-5 FT), five rebounds, eight assists, three steals, a block and two triples
With injuries to Donovan Mitchell and Max Strus, Levert has had to step up into a big role at guard for Cleveland. He has the ability to fill up the stat sheet in all categories, but efficiency will always be an issue with him. With Mitchell out for possibly the next week, Levert is a great pickup if you can stomach the efficiency issues.
Nick Richards, C, Hornets (46% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 30 minutes, 10 points (5-of-6 FG), 13 rebounds, two steals and one block
He’s been a bit of a rollercoaster of late, but that’s what happens when a career backup center is thrust into the starting role on a bad team. The minutes continue to be there for the big man, and whilst he can be prone to a quiet game, he’s capable of putting up some big double-doubles on the right night. Charlotte has a great schedule next week with four games, so if you’re looking for a solid big man, pick him up.
Amen Thompson, PG, SG, SF, Rockets (34% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 26 minutes, 16 points (7-of-10 FG, 2-of-2 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and four blocks
Thompson had his first big game in a while on Friday night, posting a monster line and a preview of what he can do when given minutes. The problem is since Fred Vanvleet returned, Thompson’s minutes have trended down to sit at around 20. Houston is sitting six games behind the Lakers for the last spot in the Play-In Tournament, so if they decide to put their focus more on development to finish the season, look for Amen to receive more opportunities. If he can get closer to 25 minutes a night, he will be a beast and you can always rely on him for defensive stats.
Kyle Anderson, SF/PF, Timberwolves (36% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 35 minutes, 10 points (5-of-9 FG, 0-of-1 FT), three rebounds, five assists and one steal
With Karl-Anthony Towns done for the fantasy season, Kyle Anderson and Naz Reid became the hottest pickups in town. Whilst Reid was the preferred option, he was already highly owned (68%) so you might have to settle for Anderson. He bounced back in his second start since KAT’s injury to post a classic Slo-Mo fantasy line. He won’t blow you away with scoring, but you know what you’re going to get with good boards, assists and defensive stats on most nights. His minutes and starting spot in the rotation will be secure for the rest of the fantasy season and makes for a nice addition to fantasy rosters.
Jaime Jaquez Jr., SG/SF, Heat (36% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 31 minutes, 25 points (10-of-13 FG, 4-of-6 FT), three rebounds, three assists, three steals and one triple
With Tyler Herro’s continued absence, there have been more minutes to go around and Jaquez has managed to play high-20s most nights. He caught fire tonight to show his upside and can always be a great asset if you need steals. He won’t shoot this well most nights, but he can be a solid asset in points, boards, assists and steals if that’s what you need.
Duop Reath, C, Blazers (33% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 32 minutes, 16 points (6-of-13 FG), six rebounds, two assists, one block and four triples
Of course, there has to be an Aussie on this list! Reath has stepped up with Deandre Ayton’s continued absence with a hand injury and a big man that can block shots and hit threes? Yes, please! That is five solid games in a row now but unfortunately, his future role will depend on Ayton’s availability. If Ayton continues to remain out, look for Reath to continue to play big minutes and be a great fantasy asset.
Santi Aldama, PF/C, Grizzlies (32% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 32 minutes, 13 points (5-of-7 FG, 1-of-2 FT), five rebounds, two steals, three blocks and two triples
Aldama is back in favor and has shown some improved consistency again of late. That’s back-to-back games with three blocks and continues to play more than 30 minutes a night. He has shown the ability to be a fantasy asset at times, especially when playing big minutes. If the Grizz finally decide to shut Jaren Jackson Jr. down, Aldama should feast in the fantasy playoffs.
Isaac Okoro, SG/SF, Cavaliers (29% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 43 minutes, nine points (3-of-5 FG, 2-of-3 FT), six rebounds, two assists, one steal, two blocks and one triple
Okoro has been seeing huge minutes lately with all the injuries to the Cleveland backcourt. He hasn’t been a reliable fantasy asset for much of his career, but he is seeing huge minutes right now and is getting blocks and steals most nights whilst seeing an increase in his scoring to double-digit points regularly. While the Cavs are battling all these injuries, Okoro is worth a pickup if you’re looking for defensive stats in particular.
Vasilijie Micic, PG, Hornets (24% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 32 minutes, 14 points (6-of-14 FG, 2-of-2 FT), three rebounds and three assists
Lamelo Ball and Tre Mann were out tonight so there were more minutes at point guard available for Micic. He had been playing solid minutes regardless of late and often closing games for the Hornets. He has now scored double-digit points in four straight games and continues to get opportunities on a team with nothing to play for to finish the season. With Charlotte’s favorable schedule next week and Ball looking unlikely to return, he’s definitely worth a look if you need a reliable low-end point guard.
Jake LaRavia, SF/PF, Grizzlies (15% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 26 minutes, 14 points (3-of-10 FG, 6-of-6 FT), three rebounds, three assists, three steals, a block and two triples
Make that three good games in a row for LaRavia, who is officially on the radar as a pickup. Coming off two double-doubles, LaRavia was able to contribute in every fantasy category tonight, and with the mess that is Memphis, he should continue to get plenty of opportunities to finish the season. He’s definitely worth a pickup if you’re looking for a forward who can help you out in points, boards and threes with some defensive stats.
Corey Kispert, SG/SF, Wizards (17% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 30 minutes, 13 points (3-of-7 FG, 6-of-6 FT), four rebounds, two assists and one triple
Kispert has seen his minutes and production become a bit of a rollercoaster lately, but with Marvin Bagley ruled out for the next week, he is likely to see his minutes push back up. The Wizards like to go small, more out of necessity with Holmes the last big standing, so Kispert should see his minutes push back close to 30 moving forward. He’s not the most exciting pickup, but he can usually provide very good triples with a sprinkling across the other categories. If you need a shooter, then grab him and see what happens.
Richaun Holmes, C, Wizards (4% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 36 minutes, 14 points (5-of-5 FG, 4-of-4 FT), 11 rebounds, one steal and one block
Yes, it’s 2024 and Richaun Holmes has become a pickup again. He hasn’t seen much time on the court since being acquired at the deadline, but with Marvin Bagley out for at least the next week and the Wizards genuinely having no other big-man options, Holmes now has a chance for minutes. Of course, the Wizards have shown the tendency to go small at times with Kyle Kuzma at center, but they can’t get away with that all the time. As shown tonight, if Holmes can find his way to decent minutes, he has the ability to rack up double-doubles with defensive stats. Whether you can trust it or not going forward is the question, but he’s worth taking a punt on to see if he can maintain a role.
Deep Leagues
(<10% rostered on Yahoo)
Dalano Banton, PG/SG, Blazers (8% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 38 minutes, 30 points (10-of-27 FG, 6-of-8 FT), eight rebounds, five assists, one steal, one block and four triples
There are lots of options coming from this Blazers team to finish the fantasy season, with Banton being one of them. He has seen big minutes with Scoot Henderson and Malcolm Brogdon out of the line-up and has been posting very solid numbers. He went off tonight and whilst he will eventually cede minutes to Scoot when he returns, it’s worth riding the hot hand while he’s playing this well. Go grab him if you need a guard.
Kris Murray, SF/PF, Blazers (4% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 33 minutes, 12 points (5-of-12 FG, 1-of-2 FT), 11 rebounds, seven assists, one block and a triple
Murray had a huge night on Friday and continues to get big minutes for a Blazers team with nothing to play for. With the Blazers missing three starters, Murray continues to get the nod in the starting line-up and has continued to improve with each game. There isn’t one particular category that Murray excels in, however tonight showed he has the ability to rack up boards and assists. He’s worth a pickup in deep leagues as we head towards silly season.
Davis Bertans, PF/C, Hornets (7% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 32 minutes, 11 points (4-of-14 FG), six rebounds, three assists, two steals and three triples
You know its heading towards silly season when Davis Bertans has become a viable pickup again. He’s now become one of the main guys off the bench for the Hornets, pumping in plenty of threes and tonight even showed the ability to contribute in other categories. Charlotte is battling a lot of injuries right now with several players looking to be out for multiple weeks, so the minutes are going to be there for Bertans. If you need threes, he is the ultimate pickup to help you out.
Jonathan Isaac, SF/PF, Magic (5% on Yahoo)
For his standards, he’s been somewhat healthy this season and we all know his upside. Even though injuries have prevented him from becoming what he should have been, when he plays 15-20 minutes he still has the ability to rack up the defensive stats. He has still averaged 0.7 steals and 1.1 blocks this season, so if you’re in your fantasy playoffs and are in need of defensive stats to get you over the line, then Isaac is your man.
Lamar Stevens, SF/PF, Grizzlies (4% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 29 minutes, 13 points (3-of-12 FG, 6-of-6 FT), five rebounds, one steal, two blocks and one triple
It’s that part of the year where struggling teams give everyone a chance and Stevens should get a good look at playing time to finish the season. His minutes have been in the 20’s in three of the last five games in which he has scored in double digits in all of them. His role will chop and change depending on who is playing for Memphis on any given night, but he could prove to be a handy player if you’re looking for some scoring and boards.
Cam Payne, PG, 76ers (4% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 23 minutes, 13 points (5-of-9 FG, 3-of-3 FT), four assists and a steal
Payne is playing a valuable role for a Philly team that is still pushing for wins. He has seen a boost to his minutes with Tyrese Maxey out, so him and Lowry have been handling the point guard duties. Maxey is hoping to be back this week, but with Lowry approaching father time, Payne should still have a chance to approach 15-20 minutes most nights, providing decent low-end point guard stats.
Nikola Jovic, PF/C, Heat (4% on Yahoo)
Tonight: 30 minutes, seven points (2-of-5 FG, 2-of-2 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, one triple and two blocks
He’s not exciting and definitely not reliable, but the Heat continue to run a tight rotation and with Herro out, there’s some increased opportunity. If he continues to start, he’s a chance to give you some low-end big-man numbers.
