Let’s take a look at the top waiver wire pickups ahead of Week 3 of the NFL season.
Tua Tagovailoa (QB) – Miami Dolphins
If you somehow missed it, Tagovailoa had himself a day. He went 36-of-50 for 469 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions, leading the Dolphins to a pretty remarkable comeback against the Ravens. Fantasy GMs are likely going to rush to waiver wires to see if he is already owned after his impressive 40.86 fantasy point game. On Yahoo, he is 63% owned, while he has 64% ownership on Sleeper. In the majority of leagues, most fantasy GMs will only be rostering one QB, so if you happen to have either Dak Prescott or Trey Lance, Tua may be worth a look, but it comes at a risk. The Dolphins face the Bills next week who have embarrassed both QBs they have faced so far. Ryan Tannehill completed 55% of passes for 117 yards, no touchdowns and two INTs. Matthew Stafford threw three picks in Week 1 and was sacked seven times. If fantasy GMs are willing to risk it against the Bills’ second-best pass defense, they are going to be rewarded with a string of juicy matchups to follow. After the Bills game, the Dolphins face the Bengals, Jets, Vikings, Steelers, Lions, Bears, Browns and the Texans. This is a list that features five of bottom-8 pass defenses in the NFL. This bundle of games also does not feature any top-10 passing defense. Tagovailoa should be able to roast these defenses with the Dolphins much improved aerial assault.
Jared Goff (QB) – Detroit Lions
Fresh off a nice four-touchdown performance, Goff is also a strong option to scoop off the waivers this week if fantasy GMs need injury coverage at their QB position. The Lions offense seems to have taken a massive step forward in two games and Goff has a plethora of weapons to sling the ball to. Amon-Ra St. Brown is the only player in NFL history to have six consecutive games with at least eight receptions and one touchdown. Don’t forget about how the resurgence of a healthy D’Andre Swift has elevated the rushing and passing games for the Lions. Next up is the Vikings, who were torched by Jalen Hurts on Monday Night to the tune of 390 total yards and three touchdowns. Goff should be a great option to stream in a high-scoring game with a division rival.
