We’ve got three pickups to kick off the first full week of May, including a red hot bat to keep hold of from our weekend streamers, and a hitter owned in just six percent of leagues.

Kyle Stowers – OF – MIA – 54% Yahoo

Stowers is on the higher end of what we’d generally recommend as a waiver wire add, but he was only owned in 8% of Yahoo leagues when I called him as a weekend streamer on Thursday. That stream could not have gone much better, as Stowers hit in all three games, including a two home run, six RBI performance on Saturday. He’s now got a line drive percentage of almost 45%, a barrel rate of almost 20%, and he consistently ranks in the top 15% of the league in most composite peripherals.

As mentioned on Thursday, there is still a lot of swing and miss in his game, and in points leagues where strikeouts are penalized heavily, that needs to be recognized, but he’s a must roster in every format as long as he’s hitting for this kind of power. Keep in mind, Stowers was a very highly regarded outfield prospect just a couple years ago, and sometimes it just takes a bit longer than usual for a young player to find their feet.
