The first handful of games are in the books and there are quite a few players off to a hot start that can help your teams out, especially if your rosters have been hammered by the plethora of injuries we have seen. Today I look at three hitters I was not in on during draft season and two pitchers who had great starts this weekend and I have on numerous teams.
Wilyer Abreu – BOS – OF – 54% rostered (Yahoo)
Wilyer Abreu came out of the gate swinging a hot bat after missing a lot of spring training due to a stomach virus. All he did in the four-game series against the Rangers was go 7-for-10 with two homers, five runs, six RBIs a stolen base and drew five walks. He proved he could hit major league pitching last year by hitting .253 with 15 homers, 58 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 399 at bats in 2024.
Abreu is a left-handed hitter and with the hot start, it will be interesting to see if the Red Sox platoon him on Monday against Oriole left-hander Cade Povich, although I don’t see the Red Sox sitting him as he had two at bats against left handers in the Rangers series and Rob Refsnyder is the other outfield option for the Red Sox. Pick him up in all formats, especially OBP leagues, in all size leagues and ride that hot streak.
