Working the Waiver Wire: August 6th

  • For today’s Working the Waiver Wire, I’ve got a four-pack of names that are widely available as there is something for every fantasy team need. I got a power bat, plus two more well-wounded offensive options, including one legit five-category asset that needs to be on way more rosters.

And if you need a legit starting pitcher, I got a Yankee rookie that is looking ready to breakthrough as one of the best waiver wire adds of back end of the 2025 campaign.

    Matt Wallner – OF – MIN – 10%

Wallner has been en fuego over his last 80 plate appearances. He has seven bombs, 12 RBI, a .250/.388/.625 slash, .422 wOBA and 174 wRC+.

Most notably, he has been doing work against southpaws as well. He hasn’t had a good average all year, with that only recently coming around. But against lefties this year, his SLG% is .467 (.338 career vs. LHP) and the ISO is .267 (.176 career vs. LHP). The wRC+ vs. lefties is at a decent 109. This means managers can still start him against lefties as his power production has not taken a hit.

In these last 80 PA, he has a 20.0% barrel rate and 46.7% hard-hit rate as he owns a 17.5% BB% and a respectable 25.0% K%. We can live with that K%, as long as the barrels remain awesome (and a 15.2% mark for the season will do), and the walks do to.

As long as he keeps it up against southpaws, he can be a 12-team play in leagues that deploy five-outfielders. Even if the production against lefties subsides, daily change leagues can be justified in keeping him and deploying him against righties, especially managers in need of a power boost.
