Working the Waiver Wire: August 20th

  • Now is the time to be a bit aggressive with your wire pick ups. We only have around 6-to-7 weeks left so it is time to find players have been producing better lately and start thinking more short term.

It does not make much since to hold a poor performing player because they still ave a good barrel rate.

You can’t afford to wait around.

So the bats I have included today are both producing right now AND they have metrics to prove it is not just a fluke.

On top of those bats I included a couple of arms. One potential ace coming off the IL and could be settled in and ready to rock and roll during the fantasy playoffs. The second is a rookie that thoroughly impressed in his debut.

    Lenyn Sosa – CHW – 1B, 2B, 3B – 38% Yahoo

It took managers awhile to take notice of Sosa, and there are still plenty of managers asleep at the wheel when it comes to him.

If you’ve read my FAAB recommendations this year, I’ve been in on him since the start of the season. Highlighting him as a fine depth piece with the potential to grow into something more. And we’ve been on the ‘more’ end of things for a little while now.

I can only reach so many fantasy managers

Since June 1, he has 13 homers in 212 plate appearances (35 HR pace for a 600 PA season). And the White Sox offense hasn’t been a total dumpster fire so he’s been able to drive in 37 (that’s a 90+ RBI pace). He has limited the K% to just a 20.3% clip. The slash is .268/.307/.505 with a .345 wOBA and 121 wRC+. Add on the 14.0% barrel rate, 45.9% hard-hit rate and season-long xStats that still exceed his surface stats. The xBA  is .286, the xSLG is .497 and the xWOBA is .349.
