Despite a miserable recent history for the Pittsburgh Pirates, the organization has managed to compile one of the most exciting groups of young pitchers we’ve seen in decades, headlined by 2024 NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes. Management opted against adding significantly to that young rotation, preferring more cost-effective options in the bullpen and starting lineup, much to the dismay of Pirates fans. Bluntly put, Bob Nutting’s disinterest in spending has held this team back in free agency, but the Buccos still have reason for optimism thanks to the quality of talent on the horizon.
