We’ve got three pitchers with some staying power for this batch of weekend streamers, including a pair of top prospects making their second major league start, with a bonus pair of hitters playing a series at Coors Field to round out the quintet.
Friday
Payton Tolle – SP – BOS @ ARI – 32% rostered (Yahoo)
Fresh off of an impressive first major league start at home against the Pirates, Tolle’s second big league opportunity will come in a tougher environment on the road in Arizona. The Diamondbacks aren’t as formidable of an offensive ball club as they were before the trade deadline but still offer an above average challenge at Chase Field. Tolle got a lot of mileage out of his plus fastball in his first start, leading to eight strikeouts, and he’ll have to be at least as efficient in Arizona as he was at home to yield similar numbers. With all of the upside that comes with one of the best left-handed pitching prospects in the sport, this is worth a stream in eight-team leagues and will be worth a roster everywhere if his stuff continues to play as it did in his debut.
Jake Cronenworth – 2B/1B – SDP @ COL – 20% rostered (Yahoo)
The first of two Padres hitters, Cronenworth really picked it up in August, obtaining an OPS of .900. Coors Field is obviously a great environment to hit, and the injury to Xander Bogaerts should ensure that he starts even against Colorado’s lefties, pushing Jose Iglesias to shortstop every day. With the beleaguered Rockies pitching staff still coughing up runs by the dozen, Cronenworth can be streamed for these three games in all formats, with a solid bet that he’ll be in the lineup for each of them.
Ryan O’Hearn – 1B/OF – SDP @ COL – 34% rostered (Yahoo)
If you’re looking for pure offensive potency over availability, O’Hearn is the better option than Cronenworth, despite having a rougher time of it as of late. His all-around line drive profile should be money at Coors Field, priming him for a huge weekend when he’s in the lineup. It’s possible that he’d be benched for a game against a left-handed starter, but when O’Hearn starts, he’s a quality stream in every format for the weekend, and has greater upside and long- term roster viability than Cronenworth, if you can stomach the reality of his semi-platoon role.
