Welcome to week six of Streamer Tidd-Bits. This week we will be recapping our Merit Based recommendations from the week of 4/22 – 4/28, the Matchup Based adds from 4/29 – 5/5, as well as looking ahead to the week of 5/13 – 5/19. Before we get into our latest round of results, I wanted to note that early on in the season one trend is clear, and that is the Matchup Based recommendations have been the way to go. That isn’t really a surprise to me because the pitchers we’re recommending are rostered in fewer than 30% of Main Event leagues, and there’s probably a good reason why they are available in so many of them.
Expecting these kinds of players to have sustained success over a two- or three-week period is asking a lot, and like we’re about to point out with Jake Irvin, you want to consider the Merit Based recommendations as “bench streamers” and not players you want in your lineup for every start. Our most recent pair of Merit Based recommendations went 0-1, as Nick Nastrini was demoted to the minors following his start on 4/21, and Jake Irvin got roughed up in his second outing again the Dodgers. However, if you had sat Irvin for his rematch against L.A. you would’ve gotten excellent results from his starts against the Marlins and the Blue Jays. Alas, we are being graded on all starts following a recommendation so we take the “L” with Irvin.
Moving on to the Matchup Based results from the week of 4/29 – 5/5, we had much better results than we did with our Merit Based recommendations. Simeon Woods Richardson struggled in his rematch with the White Sox, but only did damage to your WHIP as he pitched to a 2.45 ERA in 3.7 innings. Hopefully you held on to him though, as in his next start he shutout the Mariners over six innings, striking out six. Our lone win this week was thanks to Quinn Priester and his start against the A’s. Even though he ended up with the loss, Priester got the win in our books as he earned a quality start.
