NOTE: The cutoff point will be 50% rostered in NFBC Rotowire Championship leagues (12-teams). The players will be listed in order of rostership (with exception being the top player).
Jonah Tong – P – NYM – 0%
He had a very impressive debut with 20″+ of IVB on his four-seamer with over seven feet of extension at 95-96 MPH with a big breaking curve as he threw strikes at a 65% clip. He finished with a line of 5 IP, 1 ER, 6 H and 6 Ks. Most impressive is the big fat 0 on the walks. He lead the minors in ERA and Ks and is oozing with upside. If you’ve been saving your FAAB, this is the dude you spend it on. As of now, he is only guaranteed one more go in the rotation but, I gotta feeling he is going to force to Mets to keep him up. If I knew he’d stick, I’d recommend more FAAB.
Recommendation – 12-teams – 15-30%
Payton Tolle – P – BOS – 0%
He made his MLB debut and looked fantastic. His fastball is the beez-neez as it returned a 36.0% CSW and nine whiffs thanks to almost 7.5 feet of extension (WHAT?!?!) as it sat 96-97. And like Tong, he showed exceptional command with a 63.1% strike% as he only walked two in his debut. The Red Sox released Walker Buehler and with Richard Fitts out, Tolle has a spot in this rotation. That fastball is a great pitch and should help carry him to some rock solid success to round out the season.
Recommendation – 12-teams – 15-30%
