MLB Trade Advice: Buy Low and Sell High Candidates for Week 5

  • I see people all over my Twitter (@Andrew_FBB) getting antsy about the lackluster start to the season their fantasy baseball teams are having. I always emphasize that the season is a marathon, not a sprint! Be patient with your guys and take advantage of owners who are not patient with theirs or overreact to small sample sizes! With that, I’m going to get into 3 guys that you should target as buy-low candidates and 3 guys you should look to trade based on their inflated value.

    Undervalued Players to Buy

    Ke’Bryan Hayes 3B Pirates

On paper, Ke’Bryan has struggled through the first month or so of the season. He has a slash line of .230 BA/ 1 HR/ 9 RBI/ 3 SB through 124 plate appearances. Nothing pretty to look at, however looking at his metrics and peripheral stats tells a different story. Hayes has a .287 xBA and sits in the 85th percentile in average exit velocity. So that .230 batting average doesn’t show that he is actually hitting the ball well right now. He is also posting elite plate discipline metrics as he sits in the 97th percentile in whiff percentage, a 10.9 K%, and a 97.4 Z-Contact%. It’s hard to find a player that puts the bat to the ball at an elite clip in today’s MLB. If any owners are worried about Hayes on their team I would capitalize and acquire him.
