MLB Pickups of the Day for May 12th

  • Long-term pickups are becoming harder to come by as pretenders regress to the mean, and those who have truly made a meaningful adjustment show themselves as legitimate fantasy options, and subsequently get snatched up. Look to pick up the first name if your league is behind the curve, and the last name to get ahead of it.

    Zach Eflin, SP

To my surprise, Zach Eflin is only owned in a shade over 50% of ESPN leagues, which does not make a ton of sense given his hot start and respectable track record. Eflin has always been a guy that limits hard contact, and walks especially, but the strikeouts in his first year with Tampa Bay have been a very pleasant surprise. His K/9 is up to 9.26, from 7.62 for his career, and his ground ball rate is at a career high as well. As a cautionary note, he does have an extensive history with knee injuries, but if healthy, he’s an excellent starting pitching option.
