MLB Pickups of the Day for July 14

  • Oakland Athletics prospect Tyler Soderstrom prepares for a pitch at the 2023 MLB Futures Game

Will Benson OF Cincinnati Reds (3% ESPN 11% Yahoo)

The 14th overall pick in 2016 took a while to make his debut last year as a 24-year old. It was a forgettable year in Cleveland but since he’s been traded to Cincy, he’s had a fantastic sophomore season, hitting .291 with an .881 OPS in 44 games for an exciting Reds team. In his past 25 games, he’s playing even better with a .366 AVG, 1.147 OPS, 4 HRs, and 14 walks to only 15 strikeouts. It seems like everyone in Cincinnati’s lineup is on fire which helps Benson with RBI, but also can lower his playing time. He struggles against lefties and doesn’t see them much (1 hit in 10 ABs this season). If you need a really solid platoon bat, add him in 16+ team leagues.
